Top 10 Funniest & Most Insightful Videos on Youtube

These are my favorite Youtube videos. Some of them are funny, mostly satires, and some are serious. As you can see, I am pro-homebirth and anti-vax. I also enjoy discussions about religion and learning about religion. In this videos you can find many laughs but also a ton of information about parenting and religious viewpoints. I really hope you enjoy them. Have a laugh, or at least open your mind to a new point of view.

1. Snakes On a Homebirth is a funny video about unassisted homebirth gone wrong. It makes fun of the scare tactics doctors use to steer women away from homebirth and those who feel unassisted birth is risky, dangerous, irresponsible... Many small jokes are included from the woman pretending to drink beer while pregnant to the oxygen tank being stored by the fireplace. Snakes on a Homebirth always gives me a laugh when I need a pick-me-up. It's one of the best pro-homebirth videos out there. It starts off when a concerned husband, afraid to homebirth, and his wife who is certain that it is right. Of course, once she begins birthing, he is ecstatic to play such a grand role in the event and to be in the home. That's what usually happens at homebirths, believe it or not!

2. Zac's Dudla Services is another funny video about doulas--for men. The role of the doula is to educate women, prepare them for labor, and support and advocate for them at the hospital. The role that Zac has created, the Dudla, exists to do the same--but for men. Many women worry that if they have to transfer during a homebirth, their husbands will not be good advocates. We need them to have the balls to step up and protect us from interventions and being kicked around by the hospital staff. The dudla will teach you how to protect your woman and child from the hospital staff, including martial arts instructions. This is another one that always gets me laughing. I could definitely use a dudla to train and support my husband, in case I have to transfer when I'm birthing!

3. Breastfeeding Rocks is a video of images of mother's breastfeeding. Anytime I need a calm moment of reflecting, the beautiful images in this video can provide it. It was created in response to Live Journal decreeing that default icons could not include photos of breastfeeding, because it may be inappropriate in some places that users may be. Breastfeeding a child is always appropriate, and the right to do so is protected by the law, so how could photographs of it be offensive? That is the point this video makes beautifully. From babies to toddlers to very unique drawings, this video has a wealth of inspirational breastfeeding pictures that will warm your heart. I also recommend it to advocate nursing in public. The more images of this we see, the more densensitized to it we will be. Only then will it become more acceptable to breastfeed.

4. The Most Hated Family in the America is a series of 7 videos in which reporter Louis Theroux delves into the Westboro Baptist Church community. While I abhor the Phelps and all they stand for, this provided an interesting look into their everyday lives and believes. You can see not only how deluded and hypocritical the people are, but also how their children are affected by their parent's choices. It is obvious that the children do not even understand the message they are delivering when they picket. The Phelps are hateful people who abuse free speech, but they pay a price for their hatred. They are hated by the world as much as they hate the world, and the effects are evident in their everyday lives. This is a real eye-opener. The opening of the first video will absolutely disgust and horrify you.

5. Re: Toys for Tots is a video response to another video (Public Breastfeeding), listed in my article "Top 10 Worst Youtube Videos." In this video, a Pagan man explains in quite articulate terms why Toys for Tots refuses religious toys -- specifically the donated Jesus dolls. He makes a brilliant point that I'd never thought of and even turns the situation around on the original speaker. How would a Jewish family feel to have a Jesus doll donated to them for the Chanukah? How would a Christian family receive to feel a Goddess doll donated to them at Christmas? This man is a wonderful speaker, and he gives fabulous insight into the view of those who think Toys for Tots was right to refuse donations of religious icons--including Jesus dolls.

6. Mothering Magazine is an introduction to my favorite magazine, the only one I really read. It contains testimonials from readers and an explanation of what the magazine is all about. It is basically a natural family living/attachment parenting magazine. You can find great information about homebirth, breastfeeding, even organic food. It also talks about their forums, the only parenting community I visit. There you can find many others who live in a natural way and have an attachment parenting approach to childrearing. Along with this you should watch History of Mothering Magazine, which is a self-explanatory title. In this video you'll find even more information about this great magazine.

7. Screamfree Parenting: Raising Boys talks about the differences between boys and girls. Some feel that there are none, but I am one of many who disagree. There are clear differences between the average boy and the average girl. Now of course this isn't always true; not all boys are boyish, and not all girls are girlish. However, there are basic biological differences between the two that need to be considered when speaking to them and certainly when parenting with them. There are some natural differences in their usual personality types. This video is about how parenting shouldn't be a contest, but about introducing reality. I don't agree with everything in the video, such as the stereotypes of the strong man and the dainty female. I do, however, think the idea of Screamfree Parenting is great, and I also do believe we should respect the differences between our sons and daughters as we raise them. I also like the motto "You are not raising a little boy; you are raising a man." I try to remember that. If you like this one, you may enjoy Screamfree Parenting: Raising Girls.

8. Get off the bitty is a comedy clip. If you're wondering how long is too long to breastfeed, you'll find out in this video. It gets me roaring with laughter, although it is a bit silly--maybe borderline stupid. I am a lactivist and am currently nursing my two year old. Many people ask me when I'll stop. I wish I could show them all this video, and say "Before this happens!" It's full of little jokes that are relevant to the point, embedded in the script. Pay attention! Keep in mind the worldwide average age for self-weaning is 4 1/2, so the chances of this happening are rare. It's just a joke!

9. Vaccination Plantation: A Celebration is a satire of a government infomercial. It is anti-vax, but the information is presented from a sarcastic pro-vax standpoint. A man explains to a hand puppet why vaccinations are "good." This video is mostly relevant to the UK, but still hilarious to Americans--especially to those who are educated about vaccinations. Vaccinations are dangerous and ineffective, and they contain some of the nastiest ingredients you can imagine. This video even makes fun of home schooling, in a sarcastic manner, and talks about it being outlawed! It's definitely a must-see for those who are anti-vax...and those who are pro-vax, but would like a different perspective.

10. What's in a Flu Shot? gives even more information about vaccinations, specifically the flu shot. Did you know scientists can only predict which strain of the flu will be going around? Even if you get the vax you can still catch another strain. The ingredients of the vaccine are discussed. Did you know formaldehyde is used? This is another satire, joking about making your own vaccinations, for example. Watch it with a light heart and an open-mind! This video will make you never want to get another flu shot, when you learn what kind of things are in it.

I hope you have enjoyed my list and at least gotten a giggle. If you're not roaring with laughter after those anti-vax satires, you probably need to learn a little more about the ingredients, dangers, and effectiveness of vaccinines! Go into the world now with a new perspective on religious beliefs, vaccinations, and parenting.
