Top 10 Gifts for the Knitter in Your Life

Gifts that Will Make Her Squeeee.

Dee Minturn
It's that time of year again. The time of year that has you scrambling for the perfect gift for your loved one. But what to get? Really, anything will top that screwdriver set you got her last year but lets try for sigh worthy gifts this year anyway. I have for you a list of the top 10 gifts to give your sweety if she (or he) happens to be a knitter.
  1. Gift Certificate- you absolutely

can not go wrong with a gift card to your loves favorite Local yarn

store! The knitter gets to choose the yarn that she gets and will

love the chance at stash enhancement. Seriously. I know that she has

a lot of yarn all ready, but any knitter worth her salt will jump at

the chance to get more and will shower you with love after the

shopping. Don't have a Local Yarn store? Well, there are tons of

places on line that offer gift card options. Here are a few that I

would recommend : Blue Moon Fiber Arts

this place dyes the most beautiful yarn in the most beautiful

colorways. Lime and Violet ( http://limenviolet.com/shop/

) I am a tad biased with these ladies because they are local to me

but I love their yarn and shipping is prompt. Plus should your love

decide that she wants to perfume oil or soap, they sell that as

well. There are many others do a search on etsy there are more yarn

sellers than you could ever imagine. I know that a majority of them

have a gift certificate option or are willing to set one up if you

    ask.

  2. A Swift and ball winder. If the

knitter does not have a set of these this will probably be number

one on the list. Most places sell there yarn in hanks rather than

wound up in a ball all ready. When a knitter wants to knit with the

yarn she has to place the hank on a swift and attach the yarn to a

ball winder and begin wind the yarn into a ball. Without these

options the knitter will generally use her knees, chair, or another

available persons hands to hold the hank, and have to wind the ball

by hand. This is an option that works, but is so inconvenient that

knitters could go completely insane doing it. (Okay, not completely

insane but trust me when I say that winding 450 yards is not most

knitters idea of a good time.) they are a bit expensive, but so

worth the superhero status you will be hoisted to once the knitter

receives this gift. Paradise Fibers (

    http://www.paradisefibers.net/Yarn-Swift-and-Ball-Winder-p/999212.htm)

sells a set for $74.95 which is a very good price for both. Do a

search on line and you will find that there are many out there for

sale, including ebay where if you are lucky you can get them cheap.

  3. The knitter, when knitting, has a

pattern to follow. (unless of course she is a designer) This can be

a frustrating thing when a knitter is knitting along and suddenly

loses her place. So in order to combat that, you could get the

knitter a set of pattern tamers (

    http://www.patterntamers.com/product4.php)

She will be able use these to track her place and not have to

obsessively count. A happy knitter is good for the whole family.

  4. Have a sock knitter in your life?

These row counters will be extremely appreciated. Visit

    muddypawsknitknacks on etsy (

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5781870 ) The best row counters

    I have seen before.

  5. Every knitter loves bags. Every

knitter that I know has a different bag for each project. Here are a

few places that sell bags any knitter will love.

    http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5202336

Miss Fiber Fox has some well- made beautiful bags for the knitter

on the go. Then there are the bags that every knitter dreams about.

    Jordana Paige ( http://www.jordanapaige.com/index.php)

makes high quality bags specifically for a knitter.

  6. Every knitter makes mistakes. That

is a given, even if she won't admit to the mistake. However this

little tool will help the knitter fix those design elements and

while she may not admit it, she will thank you each time she

    "doesn't" use

    it.(http://www.knittingtoday.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=KT&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=20011)

  7. The Knitters Block Kit is perfect

for the knitter who works with natural fibers.

Any knitter will tell you that blocking an item will cure any funny

looking problem areas. In the knitting, not the girl.

  8. Do you want to give the gift that

keeps on giving? How about signing the knitter up for a sock club?

There are many out there to choose from. My advise would be to pay

attention to what your favorite knitter likes to knit. There are

many yarny clubs out there that you can choose from. The intentions

    yarn club ( http://intentionyarns.com/intentionclub.html)

will have designs and the yarn to go with it for every knitter.

Rather than a new sock pattern every month there will be different

types, hats, shawl, etc... There is also Zen Yarn Gardens Art Walk

    Sock yarn club.

The yarn in this club is dyed to match famous paintings. There are

many many more out there to try google-fu will give you many more

    options.

  9. There is a need for needles.

Knitting is not knitting without them. So a gift for your knitter

would be Interchangeable needles. There are many typed out there but

the two most popular are Denise Interchangeable needles

    and Knit Picks (

    http://www.knitpicks.com/nickel+plated+knitting+needles_NL300305.html

) Interchangeable needles are a knitters best friend. There is

always the proper size at your fingertips. You will like them

because the knitter will not feel the need to buy new needles

everytime she starts a new project.

  10. Number ten is for all the little

odds and ends that the knitter will enjoy. There are many little

odds and ends that make knitters hobby easier.

    1. Cable needles are necessary for

knitting cables. You can get them anywhere but if you really want

to make them special get the cable needle from Leslie Wind. (

http://www.lesliewind.com/cable.html ) beautiful cable needles that doubles as jewelry.

    2. In the line of jewelry

      Schoolhouse press (http://schoolhousepress.com/jewelry.htm)

has some beautiful yarn related jewelry that any knitter would be

      proud to wear.

    3. Books. Not just any books of

course but knitting and yarn related books. Amazon is a great

      source for them.

    4. Lotion is a knitters best

friend. The best one that I have found out there is from

      Villainess (http://www.villainess.net/home.php?cat=3)

you are supporting a wonderful independent seller and getting

      some marvelous lotion.
