Top 10 Grossing Vampire Movies at the Box Office

Horror Movies and Vampire Movies in Particular Are in Hot Demand

Tony Payne
Horror movies and in particular vampire movies, are more popular than ever before, thanks partly to the advanced special effects that they employ, and also to the mystique that has surrounded The Twilight Saga series and made superstars of it's cast.

But at the end of the day, which vampire movies have been the biggest hits at the box office and earned the biggest incomes?

The list below has been compiled using information available from Box Office Mojo, and with the rise in ticket prices in recent years, the fact that many of these are the latest releases might not be too much of a surprise.

1. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
This should really come as no surprise, and to date has grossed $300,531,751 at the theater.

2. The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Again this should not be much of a surprise, with the Twilight Saga gaining more popularity with each successive movie in the series. The Twilight Saga: New Moon has earned $296,623,634 at the box office.

3. Twilight.
The original movie, well behind at $192,769,854, which shows just how the cult following picked up after the original ended it's run at the theater.

4. Van Helsing.
Not a movie that I personally thought would be this popular, but it raked in $120,177,084 at the box office.

5. Interview With The Vampire.
The attraction of Brad Pitt combined with the lustfulness of a vampire, earned Warner Brothers $105,264,608 in sales.

6. Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Colombia Pictures made a substantial profit on this 1992 release, with $82,522,790 in box office sales. In today's terms that would have been at least doubled.

7. Blade II.
Combining vampires with swords and Wesley Snipes cast as the lead role definitely paid off for New Line Pictures, with this 2002 sequel to Blade, which raised $82,348,319 in earnings.

8. Blade.
The original movie in this series is not far behind the sequel, with earnings of $70,087,718.

9. Underworld: Evolution.
This 2006 sequel in the underworld series performed well for Sony / Screen Gems with revenues of $62,318,875 at the box office.

10. Blade: Trinity.
Last but not least, the third and final episode of the Blade trilogy, which grossed $52,411,906 at the theater.

The figures shown here reveal a winning trend for production companies that pick a good script and have the right cast.

It proves pretty conclusively too that if the characters and the actors that portray them get to be major celebrities, for example Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in The Twilight Saga, it's almost guaranteed that the sequels will be a hit no matter what.
