Top 10 Holiday Christmas and Hanukkah Movies Ever

Christmas, Hanukkah, Chanuka!

Ranee Wright
1. 8 Crazy Nights(2002, PG-13) An animated film that is loosely based on Adam Sandler's Chanuka Song. Sandler fans are sure to love this witty unconventional Hanukkah movie that is full of crude humor. He is the co-writer and the voice of three Jewish characters. A great movie with an even greater soundtrack of 8 songs written and performed by Sandler.

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993, PG) Tim Burton's "stop motion" animated musical film is a classic Christmas movie about a misfit Pumpkin King that thinks his purpose is to merge Halloween and Christmas. Perfect for those with a great imagination that like being taken to a strange place. While it is rated PG, it's not recommended for small children.

3. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989, PG-13) A classic Christmas movie comedy, the Griswold's, especially disaster prone Clark (Chevy Chase) are always good for a laugh. This comedy has great examples of 'don't try this at home' and the humor in dealing with certain unruly relatives.

4. Jingle All the Way (1996, PG) Some parents will go to extremes to get the hottest toy of the season for their child. This movie pokes fun at the materialism of Christmas while managing to be humorous and entertaining. Possibly the best Arnold Schwarzenegger movie ever. Also starring Phil Hartman, Rita Wilson and Sinbad.

5. South Park Volume 6: Mr. Hankey, The Christmas Poo/Tom's Rhinoplasty (1998, NR but I rate it PG-13) Funny and crude episodes for South Park fans. Mr. Hankey includes the unforgettable Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo song and the best Chanuka song ever, A Lonely Jew on Christmas.

6. Mixed Nuts (1994, PG-13) A Christmas quirky, bizarre comedy starring Steve Martin and Adam Sandler set in a suicide clinic on Christmas Eve. This is an eccentric Christmas movie worth watching.

7. Miracle on 34th Street (1947, G) The popular classic Christmas film about a single mom, Doris, who shares her cynicism about Santa with her little girl. Everything changes when a new Macy's Santa is hired by Doris. Santa ends up institutionalized as insane, and a young lawyer and friend of Doris's decides to defend Santa by arguing that he is the real thing. This is one movie worth watching every year at Christmas. I love the message of hope and the importance of believing.

8. It's a Wonderful Life (1946, but I rate it PG) An essential classic Christmas movie directed by Frank Capra. Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey grabs our heartstrings throughout his masterpiece. When George wishes he'd never been born, an angel appears and takes George back in time to make him realize how important his life has been and what life would be like had he never been born. This movie is the best movie ever.

9. Fred Claus (2007, PG) This holiday comedy stars Vince Vaughn as the jaded, bitter older brother of Santa Claus. Fred agrees to help at the North Pole but could end up jeopardizing Santa's entire operation. The plot is simple enough and the elves are cute too.

10. A Christmas Carol(1951, NR but I rate it PG) Based on the well-known novella by Charles Dickens. Ebenezer Scrooge is portrayed by Alastair Sim in this original black and white version that is the best one ever made.
