1. Willie's and Fieldhouse
Willie's and Fieldhouse are connected by a patio so that bar-hoppers can get the feel of several different atmospheres all under one roof (and often with only paying one cover charge!) Willie's has a dollar bottle beer special on Tuesday nights, while Fieldhouse boasts a ten dollar bottomless cup (beer and well drinks) on Saturdays. In the back of Willie's is a large room filled with pool tables and dim lights and a jukebox for those who want a quieter night. Willie's carved antique bar in the front of the house has the feel of an old-fashioned Irish pub, with Mizzou memorabilia covering the walls. Willie's also has good bar food like grilled sandwiches with an order of thier famous cheese fries. Step into field house later in the night for dancing on their large dance floor in back, or stand up on the balcony near the upstairs bar to people-watch as patrons walk in the door downstairs.
2. Quinton's and Tonic
This laid-back bar offers great drink specials like Martini Mondays and Big Girl Happy Hour (giant glasses of beer for 2.00). They have one of the best juke boxes in town as well as great sandwiches, soups, and artichoke dip. This bar gets hoppin with college kids gearing up on red bull and vodka before they hit Tonic, the popular dance club next door.
3. Harpo's
Harpo's is a great place to watch the big game or just meet up with some friends to sit on the rooftop patio and enjoy the evening. Expect a crowd on Thursday nights, when they have their famous Quarter Draw night. You and your friends can get a tray filled with 20 cups of Natty Light for only $5! "Don't worry, this round's on me!"
4. Shiloh Bar and Grill
The live music on the patio, the buckets of ice cold beer (a favorite special), and the throngs of college students, make Shiloh Bar and Grill a great party spot for students, especially during the summer months. It's proximity to campus makes it a favorite hangout on Mizzou game days. When there is a home game, their patio is even extended to cover the entire parking lot, underneath a heated tent with an extra outdoor bar. Though it can get rather crowded, this bar is a great place to get some "face time" in if you go to school at MU. You are bound to run into someone you know!
5. McNally's
McNally's is a great little Irish pub nestled downtown between Wise Guys Pizza and Tropical Liquors, just off Broadway. You can enjoy nightly drink specials and a great jukebox. They even added a small patio on in recent years. You can order a pizza from Wise Guys and grab a beer at McNally's while you wait. This bar gets really hopping on St. Patrick's day, since it's the only Irish pub in town. Don't forget to wear your green!
6. Tropical Liquors
"Trops" as it's known by its patrons, has two locations (South Providence and Downtown) that feature refreshing summer treats that will not only taste wonderful, but get you quite tipsy. Their plethora of slushy concoctions like the Tiger Paw (with orange juice and rum), Pina Colada, and the Sweet Tart can be enjoyed by themselves or liquored up a bit by mixing them with extra shots or some Silver Bullett (tastes like slushy lemonade, but is full of Bicardi 151). They make an excellent addition to any summer day. They are also great for people who don't like the taste of alcohol, but who want to have a good time. Be careful though, the flavor is deceivingly tasty... their alcoholicness can catch you off guard!
7. Mojo's
Mojo's is the hot spot for music lovers. Although the venue is rather small, it's intimate atmosphere attracts singers and bands from all genres. Some big names have seen the Mojo's stage, as well as many local bands that make up Columbia's hip music scene. If the music is too loud, their patio, with huge trees growing right into the deck, strung with little white lights, is always relaxing and inviting. The cover charge is usually only between 5 and 10 dollars, and you won't be disappointed!
8. Eastside Tavern
Eastside may look a bit frightening, with their horror movie themed decor and creepy dolls, posters, and action figures, but don't let that scare you away. They feature great live music from local and traveling bands, and Pabst Blue Ribbon on tap or in cans. On any given night, you will see scruffy patrons loitering on the sidewalk outside, chatting and smoking. So put on your tight indie thrift store jeans, your favorite black tee, and your old Chuck Taylor's and head on down to Eastside. Bring your own earplugs, and don't mess with Big Pants, the bouncer. This is no place for your crappy fake ID.
9. The Cherry Street Artisan
The Artisan on, you guessed it ... downtown Cherry Street, is a great place to hit the books or play a game of chess. They have mellow live music on the stage, free WiFi, lots of comfy couches, a fireplace, and lots of tasty homemade treats. My favorite studying dinner is their Grilled Turkey, Apple, and Brie sandwich with a side of their homemade hummous and chips. The fresh ground coffee is also excellent!
10. The Heidelburg
This bar is the closest to the MU campus... just across the street from Middlebush Hall and the Quad. The building burned down a couple years ago, but is back in action with a brand new rooftop patio to boot. This is a great spot to grab some Buy one get one appetizers and cheap drinks during Happy Hour after your classes, or to mingle with professors and classmates at night. They have a great jukebox and a dim atmosphere with dart boards and lots of good beer choices on tap.

Post a CommentUpdate... Quinton's no longer has one of the best jukeboxes in town. It was replaced by one of those crappy expensive ones that doesn't have whole albums, just played out songs.
