Stuck on what to get that music lover this Christmas? Let's take a quick swing through the Top 10 Selling Indie/Alternative Music Albums of 2007 according to Amazon.

"Raising Sand" by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. Pairing two icons of disparate genres, Plant and Krauss cover a combination of blues, rock, and indefinable songs from a variety of artists. What happens when you pair one of the most creative rock musicians of all time with a blue grass superstar? This ablum definitely fits into the category "alternative" music.

"The Reminder" by Feist. Leslie Feist's fourth solo album, this Canadian once known for her hard-hitting vocals with Broken Social Scene has taken a softer approach vocally, though no less socially relevant, with The Reminder.

"Daughtry" by Daughtry. The self-titled first album from American Idol sensation Chris Daughtry, this is a mix of hard hitting rock and pop, with shades of Nickelback and Pearl Jam. Daughtry was lucky to lose on American Idol so he was free to create his own unique sound.

"Nirvana: Unplugged in New York" by Nirvana. Nirvana continues to exist, at least in the collective consciousness, and a force in music. This acoustic version of many of their classic songs is sure to please a variety of music fans.

"Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" by Foo Fighters. Ten years later, the Foo Fighters continue to surprise their fans and the music world with their unique blendings of power pop and snarling metal. Get two, you'll want one for your collection, too.

"Joshua Tree - Remastered version" by U2. U2's seminal album Joshua Tree, cleaned up. Filled with political and social innuendo, the band is still a good listen.

"Music for the Motion Picture Into the Wild" by Eddie Vedder. This is a true surprise album for Eddie Vedder, lead singer for Pearl Jam. Who woulda thunk that one of the most critically acclaimed and best selling indie artists of all time would pen the tunes for an animated film? Be glad he did.

"Revival" by John Fogerty. Former front man for Credence Clearwater Revival (CCR for us purists), Fogerty shows us why his voice and music were a force in the 60s and the 70s and remains so 3 decades later.

"Sawdust" by The Killers. Synth-rock faves, The Killers released the aptly-named Sawdust filled with the shaving left on the floor after previous album cuttings, to good effect. A must have for fans of the band, includes previously-unreleased and unfinished music from the prior outing.

"The Distant Future" by Flight of the Conchords. This album belongs as much in the comedy section as in the Indie-Alternative category. Flight of the Conchords duo of singer-songwriters perform their biting comedy music as only they can. Worth a listen by virtually anyone with a sense of humor and a love of folk.

Amongst this list, you will find a wildly divergent set of styles and sounds. Any of these musicians is a worthy addition to a full musical collection.

"Who woulda thunk that one of the most critically acclaimed and best selling indie artists of all time would pen the tunes for an animated film? Be glad he did."

He did the soundtrack for the movie "Into the Wild" directed by Sean Penn, not the animated film.

Foo fighters? Nirvana? U2? The title of "Top ten Indie and Alternative albums" is a little misleading. Plus having the Killers on any top ten list is a little bit unsettling. Oh, well. to each his own. (Even if it's wrong.)
