Can't Get Out of the House, so What? You Can Still Work Out!

K. Anderson
There are many great ways to stay in shape over the long cold winter. Don't let the bad weather conditions be an excuse for you. Here are my top 10 recommendations for the best indoor exercise ideas for Winter:

10- Indoor soccer

- If you like to run around but hate to run on a treadmill, indoor soccer is a great way to release some energy. Whether you have played before or not, you can find an indoor soccer league to fit your specifications. Whether you just want to go to a gym and kick a ball around with your kids, or play competitively with people your age, soccer is a great way to burn some calories.

9- Ice skating

-It may not sound tough, but put on your skates and get out on the ice rink and you are sure to feel the burn when you wake up the next day. Ice skating can firm up those leg muscles and make you sweat.

8- Wii Fit

-While some may feel that this is not a true form of exercise, I personally own a Wii Fit and know that if you spend enough time on it, you will surely see results. Grab the family and start playing, or take the solo route and do some yoga or balance exercises. You will strengthen your core and see great results while having a great time.

7- Running on the treadmill

-If you are traditional and simply want to do the same thing that you would be doing outside, then go to the gym, or buy your own treadmill. You can walk or run on this great machine while listening to music, watching your favorite tv show, or even talking to a friend.

6- Elliptical Trainer

-Similar to the treadmill, the elliptical trainer is a great traditional way to exercise indoors over the Winter. Go to your local gym and take a spin on the elliptical to burn a large number of calories.

5- Swimming

-Swimming is an awesome form of exercise. You can work every part of your body by taking part in this sport. Simply go to the local indoor pool and swim laps, or grab a kickboard and firm up those leg muscles.

4- Volleyball

-Volleyball is a great pastime and a great sport to get you in shape over the winter. As a college student, this is something I love doing because it is a lot of fun, but I can also feel the burn after playing for a while. Grab some of your friends and head to the gym.

3- Raquetball

-Raquetball is another great sport to play that you can take part in at your local gym. This interactive sport can be played solo or with another person, and you will definitely walk out of the room sweating.

2- Basketball

-Basketball is one of the most popular forms of indoor exercise over the winter. Who doesn't love running up and down the court shooting hoops?

1- Circuit Training

-If you really want a challenging indoor exercise this Winter, put yourself through Circuit Training. Write down several different circuits to go through, and do them in 5 minute intervals. For instance, you can to pushups, lunges, and crunches in one circuit, then take a short break and do dumbbell curls, leg extensions, and bicycle kicks in the next.

There are many things you can do during the Winter to keep your metabolism high and your blood flowing. I know it's easy to make excuses against working out, but just know that if you really want to do it, there are plenty of options.
