Top 10 Kickers for Fantasy Football Draft 2009

Josh Wiley
The 2009 Fantasy Football draft is coming up and fantasy players everywhere are getting their cheatsheets ready. This article is going to look at the top 2009 fantasy football kickers. The kicker does not get much respect in fantasy and can often be taken towards the end of the draft. In those big fantasy football playoff weeks the kicker can decide the outcome, so do not overlook this position. Here is my list of top 10 kickers for this fantasy football 2009 draft preview.

Top 10 Fantasy Football Kickers for 2009 Draft

1. Stephen Gostkowski- New England

Stephen is on one of the most productive scoring teams in the league. He performed well last year without Tom Brady and should be at the top this year as New England has Brady back in the mix. Gostowski made 34 of 40 field goals last year. Expect those field goal attempts to go down but number of PAT's to go up for the 2009 fantasy football season. If Gostowski slips too far on draft day, take him and you will not have to worry about the kicker position.

2. Ryan Longwell- Minnesota

Longwell is a veteran and nailed 6 of 6 field goal attempts from beyond 50 yards last year. Minnesota seems to struggle some at getting the ball in the end zone which should lead to several field goal attempts for Longwell in 2009. For your 2009 fantasy football draft put Longwell at number two for your kicker cheatsheet.

3. Nick Folk- Dallas

Folk was a disappointment last year in fantasy football along with the whole Dallas Cowboy team. Expect Folk to rebound in 2009 as a top fantasy football kicker. If Tony Romo can stay healthy, the Cowboys will again to prove to put a lot of points on the board. Feel confident in talking Nick Folk as one of the first kickers off the board in your 2009 fantasy football draft.

4. Mason Crosby - Green Bay

Aaron Rodgers proved last season that he can help the Green Bay Packers to score some points. Crosby should get plenty of attempts in 2009. Keep him on your radar on draft day.

5. Rob Bironas- Tennessee

This guy always seems to have a huge week when I face him every year in fantasy football. Bironas is on a solid team and should have several field goal attempts as Tennessee tends to play it safe and take the points on the board as they lean on their defense to win you games. Bironas has big game potential and would make a solid pick during your 2009 fantasy football draft at the kicker position.

6. Robbie Gould- Chicago

Gould should see a rise in field goal attempts and PAT's as the Bears now have some fire power under them with Jay Cutler at quarterback. Keep Gould in mind in those late rounds of your 2009 fantasy football draft as owners start scrambling to field their kicker position.

7. Nate Kaeding- San Diego

Kaeding is an accurate kicker and should see his attempts come back some if Tomlinson is healthy. San Diego always seems to put some points on the board and he will be kicking in good weather at least for his home games. You could do much worse then Kaeding during your 2009 fantasy football draft for the kicker position.

8. Kris Brown - Houston

I am up on almost all offensive players for Houston for this 2009 fantasy football season. Brown is a solid kicker and Houston has some big weapons in Andre Johnson and Steve Slaton that will allow them to put some points up this year.

9. Garret Hartley- New Orleans

Hartley only makes this list because he plays for New Orleans. New Orleans likes to put points on the board and does not waste much of the clock. Expect Hartley to finish in the top 10 fantasy football kickers for 2009 simply because of the attempts he will have.

10. Neil Rackers- Arizona

Rackers is another kicker that will benefit from playing for a high powered offense. Expect Rackers to have a solid 2009. I am going to keep him on my radar come draft day and I would suggest you do the same.

Sleeper Kickers for 2009 Fantasy Football Draft: Kris Brown, Shayne Graham (Cincinnati), and Josh Brown (St. Louis)

Busts at the Kicker position for 2009: Jeff Reed(Pittsburgh), Adam Vinatieri ( Indianapolis) and Matt Prater (Denver)

Keep this list handy when your 2009 fantasy football draft is here. Remember the kicker can be taken late in the draft but do not ignore the position.
