Top 10 Ladies Sing Live AI Season 9

Crystal Bowersox & Lilly Scott Are the Best of the Night

American Idol better have doctors ready around the clock for Crystal Bowersox. Suffering from Type 1 Diabetes, Bowersox has been battling illness all week causing the switch this week of guys' and girls' nights. There is a reason American Idol producers are willing to go out of the way to assist Crystal Bowersox, she is part of the real talent. There is no doubt that American Idol is lacking this season, both in talent and in flash. In comparison to last season of AI, this is just plain boring.

Crystal Bowersox is one of the really talented musicians on American Idol Season 9. You can tell when she is on stage that she belongs there. It doesn't matter what she sings, it will sound like Crystal. Tonight she led the show with "Long As I Can See the Light" by Creedance Clearwater. Crystal Bowersox has the musical ability to bring a new spin to an old classic without sounding like it was forced. There is no breaking for vocal rolls, she just sings and plays guitar.

The AI judges comments for Crystal Bowersox:
Randy:"...truth is reality... I just love that you're not trying to be somebody else... I love that girl..."

Ellen:"...that is just pure raw natural talent..."

Kara:"...you completely recovered from last week...when you come out here it's effortless...I think tonight you hit a new level..."

Simon:"...I know how sick you are over the last 24 hrs...I have to tell you something Crystal, I completely underestimated you from last week...I think we've got a really serious artist here..."

Lilly Scott is the only other serious contender from the ladies side, in my opinion. With another off-beat cool performance tonight, Lilly Scott proved that she could win the vocal competition. I like that she too can choose an old classic and not butcher it. It shows a maturity not found in the other ladies of AI Season 9. Tonight Lilly Scott sang "Change Is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke. I think she will eventually have to show a pop side to differentiate herself from Crystal Bowersox, but the two are close. I still think Bowersox is ahead in recordable talent.

The AI judges comments for Lilly Scott:
Randy:"...you worked it out, you did your thing... my favorite performance of the night..."

Ellen:"... you've got 'it' .... by far the best performance of the night..."

Kara:"... you just had your first moment of the night... you are a misfit for this competition and I'm glad you tried out..."

Simon:"...this really makes the point we were saying to the others...I think it was good... I thought Crystal was better tonight..." and Simon is absolutely right, of course.

In and AI season full of odd ducks, Siobhan Magnus is the oddest duck of them all. Everything about her is weird and on the edge of being over the top. Siobhan's hair never matches her outfit, her outfit never matches her song. Her voice does not fit her body. Yet somehow, sometimes she brings it all together. She hit her big note tonight... it was more like a Mariah Carey big note and she nailed it. She sort of scared me though. I fully expect an alien to unzip it's power suit/Siobhan Magnus suit right there on the Idol stage. Maybe for the finale...

There were the boring performances of the evening. Paige Miles, Michelle Delamor, Didi Benami, and Katie Stevens all seemed to blend into one giant theme park show. None were bad, none were great. Katelyn Epperly sang well, but the song was relentlessly boring. It was a decent enough performance to garner a stay for next week though.

Then there were the bad Idol performances of the night. Lacey Brown and Haeley Vaughn need to pack their pageant smiles and leave AI Season 9 once and for all. Lacey Brown was offered up a song choice option by Kara DioGuardi last week and she took it, the exact song (I just knew she would). She sang it slightly off key throughout the start, it was just bad. Simon Cowell noted that Lacey Brown is playing the competition part, willing to do exactly what the judges say, but not a real musician.

Haeley Vaughn is such a happy little girl that should not be on American Idol. Tonight she sang a Miley Cyrus song, "The Climb" with all the heart and realness of "Hannah Montana". Of course she sang better than Miley Cyrus, but you have to just to get on Idol. It just seems like the younger singers don't understand how to learn a song. Not from learning the words and where you come in, but the real song. If you don't know that, the rest really doesn't matter. Haeley said she only knows how to smile, so maybe she needs this disappointment to understand sorrow. It will help her in the long run.

Tomorrow night two girls and two guys will be eliminated from American Idol Season 9. Hopefully we will see the end of Lacey Brown, Haeley Vaughn, Tim Urban and the last one is a toss up between Jermaine Sellers, Todrick Hall and John Park. I hope John Park is the one to go tomorrow night of that group. Tim Urban has earned more tickets home than Simon Cowell's frequent flyer card. Do not let VoteFortheWorst get hold of him in the later competition.

I caught a glimpse of this tonight and now I remember why I don't watch it. thanks for the info though.

Ok, I watched it tonight! :) And I realized that I'm awful with critiquing vocal talent, lol. However, you and my husband - who sat next to me listening to the show with his laptop open - seemed to agree with you on most of these.
