Top 10 Let's Quickly Play Videos as Uploaded by Kikoskia on YouTube

Emily Shimp
Since June 2009, I have been watching the Let's Play videos on YouTube that have been posted by a wonderful man by the name of Kikoskia. I wrote of review of his channel, and if you have not read it yet, I suggest that you do so you can find out for yourself how entertaining he and his videos are. Recently, I finished watching all of his Let's Play Quickly videos, wherein he goes to beat a particular game as fast as he can. Therefore, I have decided to compile a list of ten of his best Let's Quickly Play videos. I must admit that it was not an easy task on account that they are all entertaining in their own right, but somehow I managed to do it. If you are already a Kiko fan, or if you are a potential new fan, I think you will agree that the following games are the cream of the crop. The list, which is current as of July 28, 2009, is as follows...

10. Jim Power: One of Kiko's earlier Let's Quickly Play videos tells the story of a man sent to another planet to deal with the forces of evil. The game's difficulty is quite brutal: cheap deaths at nearly every turn, flight levels that are really fast, and one last surprise at the end that I shall not spoil for you. What makes it entertaining is Kiko's top-notch commentary. Just wait until you watch the first part and hear Kiko singing along with the background music, which is a staple of his videos. The game may be very unforgiving, but Kiko's hilarious remarks makes it all worthwhile.

9. Barbie Vacation Adventure: Kiko has done a few Barbie games over time, and I feel that this was the best of the bunch. As Barbie travels across the United States, playing various mini games along the way, Kiko truly shines with his ranting and his classic Barbie voice (creating voices for other characters is another awesome feature of his Let's Play videos). To top it off, he even supplies his own hilarious ending to the game, making this play through quite enjoyable from start to finish.

8. Valis: The first of two Valis games on my list (and that Kiko has played to date) has awesome-looking game play and insanely long cut scenes. As always, Kiko's voice acting shines during the latter, and in the action sequences, he makes some pretty funny remarks. One shining example: a simian may cartwheel towards him, leaving him to ask the instantly-classic question, "Was that a cartwheeling monkey?" The game's story is also engaging despite the lengthy cut scenes, and just wait until the very end for another of my favorite Kiko quotes.

7. Chex Quest 1 and 2: An exciting Let's Play based on a breakfast cereal...who would've thought it? Actually two Let's Quickly Plays in one, these Doom-style adventures pits the hero against the slimy Flemoids using a variety of weapons, including a spoon. Particularly entertaining is the museum level, in which Kiko comes up with names for famous artwork such as the Mona Chexa and changes the Thinker's quote to "I think, therefore I Chex." Two games in one play through leads to twice the entertaining and twice the hilarity.

6. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Game Boy version): Kiko has played three versions of this game on as many different systems, but I select the Game Boy version as the best one (though truth be told, they were all magnificent). Although this version of the game has little to do with the actual film, the action is still quite awesome throughout. The way Kiko says "Morphin time" is cool, and he plays as the White Ranger, who was my favorite of the bunch back when Power Rangers was truly spectacular. Add the usual entertaining commentary, and you have a play through that will have Power Rangers fans and non-fans alike clamoring for more.

5. Kirby's Dream Land 2: Kirby is also the star of more than one Let's Plays on Kiko's channels, and the play through of his second adventure is a classic. Watch as Kiko tries mightily to locate all seven rainbow drops in order to face the true final boss of the game. Listen to his disbelief as he notices the King Dedede appears to be asleep as he fights Kirby. Best of all, if you pay particular attention to the third part, you will witness Kiko giving new meaning to the term "Rick rolling." Fans of Kiko and Kirby will certainly not be disappointed.

4. Action 52: Before Mario Party, Wario Ware, and Raving Rabbids, there was Action 52, a game notorious for being one of the worst ones ever made. Here, Kiko goes to play all 52 games, having to deal with all sorts of insanity. You guessed it....it's his commentary that still makes it all worthwhile, and is truly laugh-out-loud funny. Additionally, it is fun to see how far he can get in each game: sometimes he goes a long way, sometimes he does not. Even so, this Let's Quickly Play is another must-see classic.

3. Awesome Possum: This particular Let's Quickly Play holds a special place in my heart: it is what introduced me to Kiko and what made me a fan of his in the first place. As the title character attempts to clean up the environment by picking up trash and destroying polluting robots, Kiko has to put up with his voice. When Awesome shouts "I'm so cool!", Kiko often responds by saying "No, you're not!", which is quite funny. The game may be hard, and Awesome Possum may now be just another obscure character, but it is Kiko's commentary that make this one solid Let's Quickly Play and which made me join the elite group of his subscribers, which as of this writing is over 4,000 strong and growing.

2. Valis III: More playable characters, more lengthy cut scenes, and more action than ever before...that is a part of what makes this better than the first Valis. Once again, Kiko's expert voice acting adds to the enjoyment of the cut scenes, and at one point, he even does an amazing impression of the Count from Sesame Street. What's more, there is a pulse-pounding battle towards the end, followed by a surprising twist at the end. Thrilling, engaging, and with Kiko on board, hilarious...all words that describe this play through rather well, in my honest opinion.

1. Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad: One of Kiko's favorite characters, Angel, is the star of this Let's Quickly Play, and as she fights her way through enemy forces, Kiko finds himself dealing with plenty of difficulties. However, it is an exciting ride from the first video to the last, and at various points, we have Kiko's superb singing and humorous remarks, and even the story behind how he had been trying to remember the name of the game for years. Add a truly epic soundtrack, epic boss battles, and a neat plot twist, and you have the recipe for this amazing play through.

So there you have it...my picks for ten of Kiko's Let's Quickly Plays as of this date. To be honest, all of the ones that he has posted were worthy of being included, and perhaps I should someday write another list featuring those that I have not mentioned or that he may upload at a later date. In the future, I shall be sure to write lists of Kiko's other Let's Plays...I'm considering doing one with his collaborative playthings and one with his longer Let's Plays such as Resident Evil and Doom 3. In the meantime, be sure to check out the Let's Quickly Play videos listed above, and all of Kiko's other videos, at the following site:

Whether you are watching these videos for the first time or the 50th time, I think you will agree that Kiko's Let's Play videos are among the most entertaining ones you will ever see on YouTube!

Oh, you'll get a mention all right, Gavaroc. I'm glad you enjoyed this list, too!

Very good list, I'd have placed Jim Power a little higher though myself. Looking forward to the one on his collaborative Let's Plays... if only because of the slight chance I'd get a mention in that one :P

Yes, yes, I'm an egotistical old bugger, I know :P But I'm okay with it.
