Top 10 Liberal Political Blogs

Brian Jones
Everyone knows the best and most up to date news and opinions are no longer provided by the mainstream media. The internet in recent years has been found to give the best and most valuable information in this respect. Among all topics for blogs, politics is the most popular. Millions of people read popular blogs on their favorite political subjects every day. If you are a liberal and looking for some of the best liberal political blogs, here are the top 10 as compiled by myself and sourced from www.portal.eatonweb.com, www.bessed.com, www.uspolitics.about.com, and the 2007 weblog awards. Enjoy the list.

1. Daily Kos -- http://www.dailykos.com/
This is the most popular and most influential political blog on the web. Written by Markos Moulitsas, a San Francisco attorney, it should not be missed, especially by those with strong anti-Bush views. This blog provides the most comprehensive information on politics geared toward the liberal and provides a huge selection of personal "diaries" on political subjects.

2. Talking Points Memo -- http://talkingpointsmemo.com/
Talking Points Memo was the highest ranked blog in the 2007 weblog awards. It is written by journalist Joshua Micah Marshall and filled with content. It provides short, to the point entries and a host of links for the liberal-minded.

3. Hullabaloo -- http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/
This blog by Digby of Santa Monica, CA is one of the most read on the internet. It provides daily posts with reader commentary. It has a very simple style with a minimum of advertising and clutter, which makes it easy to read. The views are very personalized and has a personable feel.

4. The Huffington Post -- http://www.huffingtonpost.com/politics/
This is a group blog hosted by originally began for liberal politics but has since been expanded to cover all news as The Huffington Post. It has been called the liberal answer to the Drudge Report. It is one of the most professional news blogs on the web.

5. Shakespeare's Sister -- http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/
Shakespeare's Sister, while a team blog, is led by none other than the title character. It is great for its multiple personalities and plethora of reader comments. Although it is a bit confusing to read sometimes, the multiple points of view make it all worthwhile.

6. Crooks and Liars -- http://www.crooksandliars.com/
This entry is known for its extensive video content and zealous attacks of the right wing. If you prefer to watch your news and listen to your blogs, then Crooks and Liars must be checked out.

7. Think Progress -- http://thinkprogress.org/
This blog is a great source of liberal information. It infuses politics into its liberal social themes. Ilike this blog not only for its content, but for the presentation. It is probably the most graphical friendly and aesthetic blog on this list.

8. Wonkette -- http://wonkette.com/
Wonkette is a liberal political blog with a sense of humor. It provides first hand gossip directly from Washington, D.C. A must read for the lighter side of liberal politics. Sometimes you just have to take a break from the seriousness and laugh a little bit.

9. Americablog -- http://www.americablog.com/
A very good blog for liberals who like to vent with great reader commentary. This team posted blog may not be for everyone, but true liberals will enjoy it. Granted it is on the lower levels of this list as they don't provide the most original insight, but with over 93 million visitors in the last 4 years, they must be doing something right.

10. Eschaton -- http://atrios.blogspot.com/
Written by the enigmatic Atrios, this blog has lately provided only topics and is fueled by reader comments. It is a must view for those who like to think and are in touch with the "odd" side of their personality.

When looking for political news, the blogosphere cannot be ignored. These 10 liberal politics blogs should fulfill all your needs for news and commentary on the subject.

Subject Line : Beat Long Poll Lines with Absentee Ballots from StateDemocracy.org

Many state and local election officials are encouraging voters to use Absentee Ballots to avoid the long lines and delays expected at the polls on November 4th due to the record-breaking surge in newly registered voters.

Voters in most states still have time to obtain an Absentee Ballot by simply downloading an official application form available through www.StateDemocracy.org, a completely FREE public service from the nonprofit StateDemocracy Foundation.
