Special Bible Verses for Special Types of Mothers

Sandra Petersen
A godly mother deserves the highest honor, and there is no better time to show your love and respect for her than on Mother's Day. How can you make your Mother's Day card or letter reflect the deep love you feel and acknowledge the godly heritage she has passed on to you? Let these top ten Bible verses be a springboard for expressing your thoughts to your mother on Mother's Day.

Mother's Day Bible verses from the once rebellious son or daughter

Psalm 126:5-6 (New Living Translation) says "Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest." Think about the days your mother prayed for you with tears in her eyes. Reflect upon the times she tried to instruct you in the way you should go. You can personalize this Mother's Day Bible verse with words of appreciation sure to bring your mother joy.

II Timothy 1:12c (NLT) says, "for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return." Many times the only thing a godly mother feels she can do is to ask the Lord to protect her children when they stray from what they have been taught. If this describes your mother, you can preface your Mother's Day card or letter with these words, acknowledging her trust in her God to guard you.

Mother's Day Bible verses for the single mother

Philippians 4:13 is perhaps the best Bible verse of encouragement for a single mother going through hardships. From the New Living Translation, this Mother's Day Bible verse says, "For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." By including this Bible verse in your Mother's Day card or letter, you indicate to your mother that you know about her struggles and encourage her to remember the God in whom she has trusted. Perhaps you can include a few words in your Mother's Day card or letter remembering how God gave her special wisdom or strength for specific challenges.

Another Mother's Day Bible verse for a single mother may be found in Joshua 1:9. The New American Standard Bible puts it this way: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Yes, these were commands to Joshua, the new leader of the Israelites, as they prepared to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land. A single mother faces the unknown every day. Include this Bible verse in your Mother's Day card or letter to remind her that the source of her strength will never leave her.

Mother's Day Bible verses for the mother with strong faith and love for her God

Many pastors speak about the Proverbs 31 woman on Mother's Day. Not many women feel they can compare to this Scriptural example of motherhood. If your mother has shown abundant love for her Lord, you can include this Mother's Day Bible verse with your Mother's Day card or letter. Proverbs 31:30 (NLT) says, "Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised." Let her know how much her great love and respect for the Lord has influenced you.

If home is a place of fond memories, you may wish to include Proverbs 24:3-4 (NLT) in your Mother's Day card or letter. It says, "A house is built through wisdom and becomes strong through good sense. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables." Reminisce about the many ways your mother made your home special.

Isaiah 61:10 (NASB) speaks of the inner beauty a lover of God displays: "I will rejoice greatly in the Lord, My soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels." Turn this declaration of faith into a special Mother's Day Bible verse by recounting the times you witnessed your mother's faith in action.

Mother's Day Bible verse for a mother known for her love

What other Mother's Day Bible verse expresses everything a mother could be than I Corinthians 13:4-7 (New International Version)? It reads, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." Add memories to your Mother's Day card or letter of times when your mother had to be especially patient or forgiving.

Mother's Day Bible verses for a mother of good Christian character

Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT) lists all of the qualities of a Christian. Perhaps you can identify several of these in your own mother: "But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!" Let your mother know how you have seen her model these qualities.

A wonderful concluding Bible verse for your Mother's Day card or letter is Proverbs 31:28-29 (NLT). It says, "Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: 'There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all.'" Wouldn't this bring tears of joy to the eyes of any godly mother on Mother's Day?

Your Mother's Day card or letter will be enhanced by adding one of these Bible verses, especially when you personalize it with memories or reflections.

This article was laid out in such a nice way. Just pick the Mom you want to encourage, and the Scripture verses are right there. And being a single mother myself, I was encouraged along the way. Thanks for writing this. Very well done.
