Best Movies of 2010

Ranee Wright
The ten best movies of 2010 include sagas like Eclipse, action in Salt, and the amazing 3D film, Burton's Alice in Wonderland. If you are looking for home entertainment, many of these great box office hits have already been released on DVD and Blu-Ray. Find out why these flicks made the Top 10 Movies of 10, along with a synopsis.

10. Twilight - "Eclipse"

One of the most popular movies of 2010, Eclipse is centered around the story of Victoria, a bad vampire, who is seeking revenge on Edward for killing her mate, James, in the first Twilight movie.

Eclipse is the continuation of the story of the love triangle between human - Bella Swan, vampire - Edward Cullen, and werewolf - Jacob Black. Perhaps the only movie in 2010 that young adults and older can all enjoy.

9. Karate Kid

Jackie Chan stars as Mr. Han and Jaden Smith (Will Smith's son) stars as Dre Parker in this remake of the classic film. Mr. Han teaches 12 year old Parker kung fu and the art of tranquility.

Karate Kid is one of the best family movies in 2010. The premise of this classic is that through perseverance and discipline, good guys don't always finish last.

8. Don McKay

Don McKay (Thomas Haden Church) is a quiet high school janitor leading a calm life until he leaves that life behind to return to his hometown at the request of his beloved high school sweetheart. Sonny (Elizabeth Shue) has summoned Don on the premise that she is dying and wants to see him again.

Don accidentally kills Sonny's doctor and the bizarreness sets in when Sonny speaks of the doctor as if she is still seeing him daily. Don McKay is the best thriller in this Top 10 Movies of 10 list and has a great oldies soundtrack.

7. Diary of a Wimpy Kid

The Wimpy Kid series is Greg's humorous narration of his middle school misadventures. This film covers Greg's first year of middle school. He has a 'mean' older brother, Rodrick, a funny but 'annoying' little brother, Manny and an 'embarrassing' best friend, Rowley.

It is true, even the most reluctant young and even older reader enjoys the comic strip, hand-written style and comedy found in this novel series that is printed on lined pages. Simple stick figure illustrations and adolescent humor turn into a hilarious film that was a box office hit movie in 2010.

6. Robin Hood

Ridley Scott's Robin Hood is a unique prequel to the classic tale; played perfectly by Russell Crowe. The storyline is different from any you have seen before; with a stellar cast, great sword fights and romance.

The new Robin Hood is more original, thrilling, and graphic than any other remake of the classic story. Some may disagree about this being on the best movies of 2010 list but how boring life would be if we were all the same.

5. Eat, Love, Pray

Based on a true story, this best-seller by Elizabeth Gilbert was a huge box office movie in 2010. After realizing she does not want the white picket fence American dream, Liz (Julia Roberts) embarks on a soul-searching journey to Italy, India and Indonesia.

Critics argue that some emotions are lost on screen but I found the movie to be just as riveting and deserving of making the Top 10 Movies of 10 list. The soundtrack includes music by Eddie Vedder!

4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I

Harry, Ron and Hermione take on Horcruxes (the secret power and immortality of Voldemort). Harry Potter is the most successful saga of all time making it worthy of being on the Top 10 Movies of 10 list.

The Harry Potter finale is broken into two parts. Part II - the grand finale - will be in theaters July 2011. 3. Knight and Day

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz first run into each other (literally) at the airport. Diaz (mechanic and classic car connoisseur) ends up on a plane with Cruise (a spy) and becomes quite smitten. Their lives quickly become entangled but Diaz is unsure she can trust him.

What made this the best adventure movie of 2010? Knight and Day is great entertainment for men and women. The eccentric banter and mix of romance with action will ensure an enjoyable movie night for you and your significant other.

2. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland is the number one 3D fantasy in the top 10 movies of 10. It is not the storyline that is so enthralling but the curious characters and graphics that make this one of the best movies of 2010.

The visually stunning masterpiece was a huge box office hit film in 2010. A wonderful escape for those of us who are mad and as Alice is fond of saying, "All the best people are."

1. Salt

Out of the top 10 movies of 10, Salt wins. Angelina Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer accused of being a Russian spy. Happily, early in the film Salt's blonde hair is replaced with raven black. Sorry, Angie, it just suits you better. Salt must prove her innocence and uncover the truth before important leaders and many others die.

Jolie took this film to the box office and made it the best action flick of 2010. Jolie is "hooah (aka hardcore)!" There are rumors of a sequel!
