Best Comedy:Beerfest. Beerfest I thought was by far the funniest film of the year. The film's plot is about a couple of American men who are big beer drinkers and have to travel to Germany to defend their family's honor and secret beer recipe that has been in the family for generations. When the Americans get to Europe and to Germany, they discover a hidden society of Beer Drinkers that represent each country in the world. The Beer drinking contest occurs once a year. In their first time ever in the competition, the Americans are the laughingstock of Europe and get destroyed by their competition. Then they train for an entire year and are finally able to win the competition. The plot of the film is great but is the non stop laughter that makes this film truly great.
Best Action Film:The Departed. The Departed contains an All Star cast with the best actors of our generation. It is directed by one of the best directors in cinema history: Martin Scorsese. The famous actors in the film are Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, and a host of other actors you will definitely recognize in the film. The film is about two double agents. One works for the mob boss Nicholson from within the police department. The other works for Martin Scorsese as a spy for the police. The two double agents are played by DiCaprio and Matt Damon. Alec Baldwin and Mark Wahlberg are simply hilarious as they bicker throughout the entire film. The acting by Martin Sheen and the rest of the actors is simply amazing as well. This film contains non stop action, drama and has enough laughs to keep you entertained throughout the entire film.
Film with Best acting performance: Will Smith in Pursuit of Happyness. If you have not yet seen this film, do not disagree with my choice for best acting performance. Will Smith is simply amazing in his role as a single father straddling the poverty line as he tries to support himself and his son. Will Smith makes you as a viewer care about his plight and the fate of his young son, who really is his son in real life. Will Smith has by far his best acting of his career in this film and it is worth every penny to see him. The plot of the film is about a troubled marriage that Will Smith has with his wife as he tries to raise his young son. Will Smith and his wife had bought a type of X-ray machine using their life savings and that has led to their downfall and poverty. When Will Smith's wife leaves him, Smith must balance the raising of his child with trying to make a living. On top of that, Will Smith is in a highly competitive internship that does not pay a salary. However, the best intern gets a job with a big time Wall Street company. Will Smith must keep up with his internship, while selling his X-ray machines and raise his son in his lifetime. The agony and stress on Will Smith's face is very lifelike and even makes you come to tears in some scenes. Will Smith has by far the best acting performance of 2006.
Mission Impossible 3 stars Tom Cruise. His third sequel was still very good although most people including myself will tell you that the first or second Mission Impossible Movies were better than the third. Still he deserves mention as his film is a top 10 of 2006. MI3 had suspense and thrills and action and almost everything you could want in a film. The plot centers on a world terrorist who sells weapons to other terrorists around the world. Tom Cruise must locate this criminal, stop him from getting a chemical weapon, and rescue his wife before it is too late. As usual, Tom Cruise saves the day in stunning and thrilling fashion.
The Good Sheppard: This film just came out rather recently and once again Matt Damon has another great part of acting. The Good Sheppard is a CIA thriller that is about the days before the CIA ever existed. The film is a little long but when you sit through the film, it doesn't feel like a 3 hour film. The dialogue is great before the film. The film is directed by Robert Dinero who also has a few appearances in the film. Definitely a great movie with action and suspense and a must see!
Casino Royale: This film is unlike the other Bond films and like the previews say, it really is a revolutionary Bond film and unlike any Pierce Brosnan James Bond film. While there is no double entoundra speaking by Bond with a few exceptions, the dialogue is great and the action still non stop. The use of gadgetry and a high gadget car is lacking although that isn't such a bad thing. The high stakes poker scenes are absolutely great and the new James Bond man, Michael Craig is absolutely great and looks to have a promising role in the career of James Bond. The creators of the Bond series took a huge risk by having a no-name actor become the next James Bond but they have crushed all doubters in this star film.
V for Vendetta: V for Vendetta is unlike any film that has come out this year. The film takes place in the future yet it encompasses the past and the failed attempt at blowing up the British Parliament. Now a masked man known as "V" has surfaced to take on the leadership of England. The leader of Britain has become a ruthless dictator who has poisoned his own people in order to take control. Using his influence the man known as "V" gains the trust and help of Natalie Portman who does a superb acting performance in the film. V is able to get the whole English society behind him as they overthrow the government and restore order in the end.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest: Johnny Depp comes back for the second installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. This is the middle film of three films and most people including myself believe that the first film was a lot better. Most original films are better than their sequels and this is no difference. This film has the same cast of characters and is about Johnny Depp getting back the Black Pearl ship and Mr. Turner seeing his dead father. The acting is pretty good and the film is worth seeing.
The Prestige: The Prestige stars Michael Cain, Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. Bale and Jackman are almost replicas of each other and are perfect matches for these fierce competitive roles against each other as they both star as dueling magicians. The film is narrated in some parts by Michael Cain who is always at his best as a supporting actor. You have to pay special attention in the film to every detail otherwise you might miss something because the ending is rather difficult to grasp and might leave you "hanging in the balance" as Michael Cain puts it. This is one of the rare films that makes you think during the film and is truly excellent all around.
Glory Road: Glory Road has no star actor but the theme and plot of the story which is based on a true story is great. The plot of the film is about a Texas team that had a starting lineup of all black players which was revolutionary for change in the sport of basketball. No college team had ever fielded a team that started more than 1 black player and to have an entire starting lineup of all black players was historic. In the championship game, the team defeats an all white Kentucky team. The film shows the elements of heart, determination, courage and racism in society and is an inspirational film.

Post a Commentthis is the first time I read or heard something positive about "the good shepherd." That movie was so hyped and I was pumped to see it, but when it came out and my friends saw it before me and gave it a thumbs down I decided not to spend the nine dollars to see it. But, now maybe I'll give it a second chance. By the way, V for Vendetta is one of those movies I put off for wayyyyyy too long, thanks for reminding me.
