Top 10 Movies Based on Comic Books

ED Watts
While I have never cracked open the first pages of a comic book, I am an avid movie watcher and am particularly fond of comic book movies. My Top 10 list follows, which isn't influenced by a comparison of the movie to the comic book, just the movie alone.

10. The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - The Four fight the Silver Surfer, who has come to destroy Earth. This was absolutely a fun movie to watch. It isn't a deep or otherwise serious movie - just fun and sometimes that alone is enough.

9. Iron Man - Tony Stark creates a robotic suit and becomes Iron Man to save the world. The acting and special effects set this movie apart from the many other comic book movies.

8. Hulk - This film showed how Bruce Banner becomes the Hulk. The split screens and multi-panel shots boosted this movie into the Top 10, as this technique gives one feeling of watching a comic book in action.

7. ThePunisher - Frank Castle must avenge the death of his wife and child. This movie hits close to home as most of us can imagine such a nightmare occurring and we all hope we can be like Castle.

6. Blade - Half breed vampire Blade hunts other vampires and takes down a powerful vampire who wants to kill all humans. The fight scenes alone are enough to make this movie Top 10 worthy.

5. Superman Returns - Superman returns to Earth and takes on Lex Luthor when he tries to create a new continent that will cause many to perish. This movie made the cut because it was exciting enough to keep my heart racing from start to finish.

4. X-Men 2: X2 - Magneto joins forces with the X-Men as foe William Stryker plans to rid Earth of all mutants. With Hugh Jackman's adrenaline pumping Wolverine, this movie would make anyone's list.

3. Spider-Man 2 - Peter Parker must take care of personal problems while taking on former mentor Doc Ock. This movie makes the top for its ability to play heavily on our emotions with the boy behind Spider-Man, while keeping us on the edge of our seats with the action sequences.

2. 300 - During the Battle of Thermopylae , King Leonidas fought his 300 Spartans against the Persian army of over 100,000. This movie was amazing largely because of the graphics and battle scenes, as well as the notion of doing whatever necessary to protect one's country, even in the face of certain destruction.

1. Batman: The Dark Knight - The Joker works against Batman in his attempt to rid crime from Gotham City. Heath Ledger's portrayal of "The Joker" made this movie #1. Never before has an audience cheered so hard for the villain.

I think the airplane scene and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor could lift any movie from being horrible, but to each his own!
