Top 10 Movies to Watch on Halloween

If you're looking for a good flick to watch this Halloween season, try one of the following from my top picks:

10. Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)- Directed by Wes Craven, this movie will make you afraid to sleep. It's also why I jump when I hear noises in the middle of the night.

9. Halloween (1978) - Directed by John Carpenter. An obvious choice; what's a girl to do when her murderous brother escapes his mental institution and comes to finish the job he started 15 years earlier?

8. The Exorcist (1973) - Directed by William Friedkin, a young girl possessed by the devil does all sorts of horrific things before being exorcised. Creepy and gross.

7. Scream (1996) - Another Wes Craven film, the 90's culmination of horror. Teenagers get picked off, and it all seems to center around the main character. Creepy, bloody and funny, the whole trilogy is worth watching.

6. Silver Bullet (1985) - Directed by Daniel Attias. The first horror movie I watched, it sparked my interest in the genre. A sad, scary tale of a werewolf stalking a small town and a young, wheelchair-bound boy who discovers it's identity. An early Stephen King adaptation.

5. Psycho (1960) - Classic Alfred Hitchcock; try not to shiver when Norman Bates declares, "We all go a little mad sometimes." Norman's obsession with mother is even more scary when you learn this movie is based on real life.

4. Night of the Living Dead (1968) - Directed by George A. Romero, this flick isn't exactly scary by today's standards, but it's a classic. Zombies with a taste for human flesh... ewwwww!

3. The Shining (1980) - Directed by Stanley Kubrick, another Stephen King adaptation. Jack Torrance is a caretaker going mad in an empty hotel with only his family to murder. Jack is scary. Pretty much everything about this movie is scary.

2. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) - Directed by Jim Sharman. This movie isn't creepy or scary or spooky, but it does have flashy costumes, aliens and lasers. Plus, men in drag, a twisted plot, and loads of corny song and dance.

1. The Silence of the Lambs (1991) - Directed by Jonathan Demme. Based on the book by Thomas Harris, we follow Clarice Starling as she tracks down a serial killer. She turns to the maestro of murderers, Hannibal Lecter, for help. Everything about this movie is creepy, scary and sexy. Without a doubt, my favorite film of the genre.
