Top 10 NHL Free Agents for the 2009-2010 Season

Daniel and Henrik Sedin: The Sedins are a $13 million cap hit for whatever team decides to sign them both. With this $13 million that team will be getting 160 points a season. These two twins have been playing together since they were kids. They have a knack for knowing where each other is at all times on the ice. They are by no means at the end of their careers either. Obviously, they are much better together than apart and teams will look to keep them together for production's sake. The Sedins also have only missed a combined one game the past four seasons, making them durable as well as valuable. 2008-2009 Salary: $7 million per twin.

Marian Hossa: Hossa will be the most sought after free agent next season if the Detroit Red Wings can't find a way to sign him. Hossa put up 40 goals this season with the Wings and played an average of 17 minutes per game. Hossa is a dynamic scorer that any team would love to have. The only problem would be that he is among the NHL's elite so he will require a hefty salary. 2008-2009 Salary: $7.4 million.

Jay Bouwmeester: Though viewed as one of the NHL's best defenseman, Bouwmeester will have to prove himself on a bigger stage come next season. He has expressed that he has no desire to stay in Florida any longer on a losing team. Bouwmeester is one of the best two-way defenseman in the league but some question his abilities to lead a team as the number one defenseman. Bouwmeester has not seen a single playoff series since playing junior hockey. 2008-2009 Salary: $4.8 million.

Marian Gaborik: Gaborik could be right behind Hossa, but injuries have plagued the flashy forward in recent years. He has been labeled as injury prone and teams will be taking a risk paying the salary that he expects. Gaborik is one of the most dynamic offensively minded forwards in the game and excites Wild fans whenever he touches the puck. Since the lockout, Gaborik has missed 40% of the Wild's games due to injury. 2008-2009 Salary: $6.3 million.

Scott and Rob Niedermayer: Any deal involving Scott Niedermayer would need to be short-term and it would have to be agreed that Niedermayer would not retire and leave his salary for his team to deal with. Scott and Rob will certainly stay together as a pair and some teams may shy away for this reason. Scott's career points per game prior to playing with Rob was .53 and after playing with Rob skyrocketed to .74.Scott, had a tremendous season with the Anaheim ducks. Teams looking for a number one defenseman short-term would be crazy not to consider Niedermayer. Salary: $8.7 million.

Martin Havlat: Havlat is another player who dealt with injury issues throughout the last two seasons. Now that he is healthy, the Chicago Blackhawks would love to keep him around. But with players like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, the Blackhawks already have players who will earn big money, long-term contracts. 2008-2009 Salary: $6 million.

David Krejci: Even though Krejci is not a unrestricted free agent, the Boston Bruins do not want to lose this playmaking center and emerging star. But with many players already with big contracts, Krejci may be the odd man out. He will be a prime candidate for an offer sheet from another team and most likely will make a lot more money because of it. 2008-2009 salary: $883,000.

Matthias Ohlund: Though Ohlund's offensive production has slowed in the past few seasons, he is still a valuable two-way defenseman. His smooth skating, hard shot, and hockey smarts are still way above average. This season, Ohlund finally cracked the 100 penalty minute mark proving there is a little bite to his bark. Teams looking for a two-way defender should not miss out on Ohlund. 2008-2009 Salary: $3.5 million.

Brian Gionta: Gionta's point production has slowed since scoring 48 goals after the lockout, but he is still a valuable 20 to 30 goal man. Whoever decides to pick up Gionta will have to do so knowing that. Last season goal totals and ice time were both down. Gionta is a valuable pickup for teams looking for reliable scoring and heart. 2008-2009 Salary: $4 million.

Mike Cammalleri: The deciding factor in Cammalleri's fate will be which player will show up when called upon. He had a great season with Calgary where he put up a point per game. The season before that though, while still in Los Angeles, he had a miserable season. Teams will take this into account when considering Cammalleri for free agency. Teams could potentially get a great scorer for a low-price because of his past. 2008-2009 Salary: $3.3 million.
