First, we stop at the Indiana Free Library, located on Philadelphia Street and 9th Street. Here there is a dizzying array of access to books, movies, and dvds; as well as access to the internet (all free of charge as long as you possess a library card). The library features a young adult section complete with lounge chairs and silent board and card games for youth enjoyment (such as chess, checkers, and backgammon). A perfect place to cozy up and read or finish that research paper!
Next, we stroll to the Jimmy Stewart Museum, located directly next door to the Indiana Free Library on 835 Philadelphia Street. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. There is an admission fee of $5.00, with discounts for Seniors, Children, and Students. The Jimmy Stewart Museum offers a small exhibit about the life of Jimmy Stewart and a varying array of his works from film and radio. Available to the public is a 1930's vintage movie theater within the museum featuring films that star Jimmy Stewart, these matinees are on Saturdays and Sundays only. After a matinee why not visit the Indiana County War Memorial directly outside of the Jimmy Stewart Museum and Indiana Courthouse, complete with benches and a flagpole, this cozy little nook is perfect for a quiet picnic of reflection or a place to offer a silent prayer for our fallen heroes.
Continuing to stroll down the street, we stop at the Philadelphia Street Playhouse & Theater, located on 725 Philadelphia Street. Offering a wide variety of plays and comedical relief, the playhouse is currently showing "Are You Being Served?" a comedy based on the famous British tv show, where two brothers running a department store run into a lot of strange characters. Across the street from the playhouse there is another attraction of Indiana, Sheesha King Hooka Bar, located on 726 Philadelphia Street. Enjoy lounging at a table or on a comfortable couch smoking and listening to music. Not a smoker? You can still enjoy this atmosphere and play a few card or board games with friends. Legitmate identifaction is required before being seat, no one under 18 is permitted! Food and beverages are available for additional cost.
Then we travel further along the street we come to Lucky Break Billards, located at 631 Philadelphia Street between North Carpenter Street and South 6th Street. Food and beverages are available within the premises however, they ask that you do not bring in outside food and beverages. Live music can be enjoyed on Saturdays. The general asking price per billard table is $49.95 and you can play as long as you wish.
Further on down the street is Sunflower Yoga Studio, located at 580 Philadelphia Street between South 6th Street and Taylor Avenue. Your first class you can try out for only $5.00! Students enjoy a 20% discount in any of the classes from beginning or basic level yoga to tai chi and qi gong. Hop on Indiana's priemere bus Indigo (downtown bus station located on Philadelphia Street directly across from Coney's Bar. Bus fare is only $1.00 each way and .10 for an hour transfer) and take a trip to the Indiana Mall located on 2090 Oakland Avenue. This mall features over 50 stores and mall-wide events are held monthly. For example, this month includes a craft fair, motorcycle show, sidewalk sale, and a blood drive.
Directly outside of the main entrance to the Indiana Mall we have the Carmike Movie Theater, located at 2334 Oakland Avenue. This cinema offers four movie screens, where Adult ticket prices are $7.00, where as Children and Seniors are $5.25. It is really quite clean and staffed well! Expect friendly and prompt service as soon as you walk through the doors!
Lastly , we travel to Mohawk Bowling Lanes & Billard Hall, located on 1924 Oakland Avenue. Food and beverages are available at this place of entertainment. An on-site ATM is available at this location. Mohawk Lanes is open 24 hours. Please call (724) 463-7443 for more information!
