Top 10 Patriotic Country Music Songs of All Time

Kelly Spies
Summer is the most patriotic time of year, with the 4th of July, baseball in the park and fishing at the lake. Here's a list of some of the greatest, old and new, patriotic country music songs perfect for a CD remix or background music for a bbq.

#1. America Will Survive - Hank Williams. If Hank can't make you proud to be an American then no one can. This oldie but goodie would be a good addition to any late night bon fire or cookout.

#2. Where the Stars, Stripes and Eagles Fly - Aaron Tippin. This song is all about America's freedom and work hard mentality. It's relatively new on the list of patriotic country music songs but it has earned its spot on the list.

#3. God Bless the USA - Lee Greenwood. How can goose bumps not pop out on the back of your neck when you hear this one? It's undoubtedly the number #1 patriotic song in my book. When it's time to fire up those sparklers put this song on to accompany the show.

#4. America - Sung by Waylon Jennings. A reverberation of what America stands for and what she's had to endure to get where she's at today. It's an open confession of the mistakes America has made and a tribute to all that's valuable about it.

#5. Rich Man's War - Steve Earle. Interesting and somewhat controversial Rich Man's War is a striking comparison between a US soldier and a certain Iraqi.

#6. Iraq and Roll - Clint Black. He might not be thumping the roof down but his smooth gonna-kick-your-butt song about fighting Americans is about as patriotic as they come. Iraq and Roll celebrates the fact that the United States doesn't back down.

#7. The Ballad of Ira Hayes - Johnny Cash. You can't go wrong with this old, traditional style patriotic country song. It's the story of an Indian, it's the story of a Vietnam War Vet, and it's a story of all soldiers fighting for freedom.

#8. Not Me - Keni Thomas. Not Me is a song about people standing to do what they don't want to do because it's the right thing to do.

#9. American By God's Amazing Grace - Luke Stricklin. When you're proud of your service to the United States no other song celebrates it with you like this one. Stricklin clearly isn't listening to any of the rants or badmouthing the US of A.

#10. Days of America - Blackhawk. I really like this catchy tune. It still has that country twang and southern passion but it's catchy enough to keep me listening.

There you have it, 10 really good patriotic country music songs. Be proud to be American.

Nice list Kelly. I think Mr. Hayes was a WWII vet, but Johnny's song and your article are still of the highest quality.
