This is a list of the top 10 pop artists of the decade. The list helps define those artists and why they are remarkable artists of the decade.

Justin Timberlake

Throughout the early Millennium, boy bands reigned on radio and television sets across the Nation. Nsync, one of the popular bands, dominated the Pop charts and continued to capture teen girls' hearts. Fans of Nsync fell in love with the group's appearance, sound, and talent. Justin Timberlake, the youngest of the group, sung lead on many of the group's hits including "Tearin' Up My Heart" and "I Want You Back". Teen girls fell in love with Timberlake's voice, smile, and Southern hospitality. After Nsync parted ways, Timberlake went on to have success with two solo albums and collaborations with other major artists. As a solo artist, Timberlake had major hits such as "Rock Your Body" and "Cry me a River".

Britney Spears

At the start of 2000, former Mousekeeter Britney Spears was making a name for herself in the music industry. At the start of 2000, Spears was prepping to release her 2nd album Oops..I Did It Again. The second album featured hit tracks "Oops.. I Did It Again" and "Stronger". After the second album, Spears released 2 more albums before taking an extended break to focus on family and personal affairs. In 2007, Spears released her first electropop-inspired album Blackout which proved to be a major success for this pop star. "Gimme More" became a top 5 hit in 12 countries around the globe. Spears released 2 more albums at the close of the decade, leaving fans wanting more from the pop sensation.

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera, another former Mousekeeter, released her first self-titled debut album to much success. Her first single "Genie in a Bottle" displayed her powerful voice and talent. The debut album spawned several top 40 tracks including "What a girl Wants" and "I Turn To You". In 2002, Aguilera released Stripped which included "Fighter" and "Beautiful". After this album, Aguilera disappeared from the music scene to focus on a new direction in music. In 2006, she released her much-anticipated album Back to Basics which was a jazz and blues-inspired album. The album featured "Ain't No Other Man" which helped put Aguilera back on the top of the charts.

Pink

In 2000, Pink first burst onto the scene with her pop/r&b album Can't Take Me Home. Released on LaFace Records, the Nation was introduced to Pink, widely famous for her pink hair and hyper personality. The debut album featured "There You Go", "Most Girls", and "You Make Me Sick". After peaking at #26 on the Billboard 200 charts, Pink decided she wanted to control her own album. In 2001, Pink did just that by releasing Misundazstood on Arista Records. The album featured more pop/rock tunes including the hits "Don't Let me Get Me" and "Just Like a Pill". Pink went on to release 3 more albums including 2008's FunHouse which included "Don't Leave Me", "Funhouse", and "So What".

Kelly Clarkson

In 2002, American Idol helped form the music career of singer Kelly Clarkson. After winning the reality show's first season, Clarkson had much success with her debut album which included tracks "A Moment Like This" and "Miss Independent". After the huge success of her debut album, Clarkson released 3 more albums which spawned top 40 hits including "Since You've Been Gone", "Breakaway", and "I Do Not Hook Up". Clarkson has become an International superstar and reigns as one of the top vocalists of the decade.

Gwen Stefani

Throughout the decade, Gwen Stefani emerged as a solo artist. After working extensively with her group No Doubt, Stefani began to embark on a new journey as a solo artist. In 2004, Stefani's personal style and versatality was used to help promote her first solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. The album showed fans a new sound of the singer which longtime fans were not used to. The album featured first-time collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Dr. Dre, and Dallas Austin. The first solo album featured such top 40 hits "Hollaback Girl", "What You Waiting For?", and "Rich Girl". Two years later, Stefani released her follow-up album which featured "The Sweet Escape", a song featuring R&B singer Akon. Stefani made herself stand-out as a major artist of the decade.

Mariah Carey

In 2002, all eyes were on Mariah Carey as she released her album Charmbracelet. The album was the first released on Island Records. It featured top 40 hits including the ballad "Through the Rain" and the r&b-inspired track featured Cam'ron "Boy (I Need You)". The album reached #3 on the Billboard charts. Three years later, Mariah Carey released Grammy-winning album Emancipation of Mimi. With such hits as "We Belong Together" and "It's Like That", Carey proved once again she was the reigning queen of pop and r&b. Mariah Carey went on to release 2 more albums including 2009's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Through the end of the decade, fans were eager to hear more from this phenomenal singer.

Celine Dion

In 2002, after having a 2-year hiatus to start a family, Celine Dion returned to the music scene with her album A New Day Has Come. The album featured ballads "Have you Ever Been in Love?" and "A New Day Has Come". The following year, Dion released another album which spawned the hit "I Drove All Night". In 2003, Dion was given the ultimate chance to play a 600-show gig in Las Vegas at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. During her stint at Caesar's Palace, Dion was hard at work on Miracles, an album and book which introduced Geddes' pictorial book about the joy of babies. Two years later, Dion released another successful album Taking Chances. Throughout gigs and music, Dion proved she was a stand-out artist of the decade.

Beyonce

In 2001, Beyonce was still making waves as a member of the popular girl group Destiny's Child. Beyonce was demonstrating strong willpower in songs such as "Independent Women" and "Survivor" while showcasing her vocal range across venues worldwide. Beyonce helped form "Bootylicious" as part of the dictionary, while impressing fashionistas with her style and grace. In 2003, Beyonce embarked as a solo artist by releasing her first, solo debut album Dangerously in Love. The album featured top 40 hits "Crazy in Love", "Me Myself and I", and "Baby Boy". The album helped Beyonce win 5 Grammy awards and helped form the start of Beyonce's solo career. Three years later, Beyonce released B-Day, which featured "Upgrade You", "Ring the Alarm", and "Irreplaceable". In 2008, eager fans were excited to see the release of Beyonce's newest album I am...Sasha Fierce. The album featured hits "If I Were a Boy", "Halo", and "Single Ladies". Beyonce's voice took control over the airwaves, and she continues to dominate radio and television around the world.

Madonna

In 2000, fans got to hear another dance album from Madonna. Music featured 10 tracks including top 40 hits "Music", "What it Feels Like for a Girl", and "Don't Tell Me". Throughout the next 8 years Madonna would go on to release 3 new albums, including Confessions on a Dancefloor. This album featured club-inspired tracks "Hung Up", "Sorry", and "Get Together". Fans had a chance to hear their favorite pop icon performing what has made her famous since the 80s. Her last studio album Hard Candy helped mark the end of her 25-year recording history. The album had much success with collaborations from Justin Timberlake on "4 Minutes" and Kanye West on "Beat Goes On". Throughout the decade, Madonna continues to reign as the Queen of Pop.

    Did you seriously just make a Top 10 Pop Artists of the Decade list without Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, or Girls Aloud? This list is truly US bias.
