Due to its nature and speed, a power Yoga workout can be more tiring than a slower traditional Yoga workout. Having proper background music can be a great aide in calming the mind - ideally power yoga workout songs should be fast enough to reflect the speed of the workout and soft enough to soothe the mind.
Here are some power yoga workout songs I use in my practice.
Chakra Rhythm (Soulfood Power Yoga CD): This track sets the pace as you begin your practice with rhythmic beats and vocal music. And the tempo gradually builds up getting you ready for an intense workout.
Dancing Buddha (Soulfood Power Yoga CD): This song is relaxing and inspiring helping you maintain your speed through the workout. The chants and instrumentation are very lively.
Awakening (Soulfood Power Yoga CD): This track is very refreshing - the instruments and percussion energize and uplift you. It a good power Yoga workout song to play mid way in the practice.
Hatha (Soulfood Power Yoga CD): The music is soft and stilling. It is a good song to your practice with. It leaves you calm and fresh.
Prana - Sahana Vavatu (Yoga Rhythms by Shiva Rea CD): This is an opening power Yoga workout song. It is an invocation that prays for the well being of the entire universe. The chant make you meditative as you start your practice.
Jaia Ganesha (Yoga Rhythms by Shiva Rea CD) : This tracks has some unusual beats that seem to create deep vibrations within helping you focus on your workout while keeping the momentum and rapid flow of poses.
Wandering (Yoga Rhythms by Shiva Rea CD) : This is a beautiful track which uses the flute. The music creates a feeling of being in the open with birds chirping. It makes you feel connected to nature as you work through your poses.
Guru Mari(Yoga Rhythms by Shiva Rea CD) - This is a soft chant to end you practice with in the corpse-pose. It is gentle and soothing to mind. It leaves you in an upbeat mood, ready to meet the rest of the day with a spirited mind.
In For The Night (Yoga Moods CD) : This track presents a modern blend of western and eastern beats - it is different from the traditional power Yoga workout songs. The beats are rejuvenating but relaxing. They set the right tempo for your workout - neither too fast nor too slow.
The Orbiting Suns (Yoga Moods CD): The music is renewing and soothing. This is another track you can use when you are in the middle of your workout.
Except for the starting and ending tracks, I like to play the tracks in a random order so that each workout feels different and there is no monotony in the routine. Give these power Yoga workout songs a try and enjoy your practice!
