Top 10 Precious Moments Collectibles of 2006

C. Phillips

For fans of the tear drop eyed figurines, 2006 has been another year of great precious moments collectibles. Here are my top ten picks for these pun-sporting porcelain beauties.

Nativity Tabletop Tree

This is a 14" wonder in sculpture. The display is shaped like a full evergreen tree, with hand painted detail that's sure to draw some attention this season. At the pinnacle of the tree is a "crystal" star with the word "Joy" embossed therein. The nativity scene is below this, and nestled in the sloping branches is a path to the 'nativity' with dozens of sculpted figures participating in activities of the season; darling houses make a zig-zag design upward. And the best part about this Precious Moment Collectible is that it is illuminated. The star top and the little houses light up, running on batteries or an AC adapter.

Cinderella - A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes

For anyone that loves the magic of Disney's Cinderella, who is quite possibly the most beloved heroine of all time, here is Precious Moment's first ever Disney princess inspired collectible. Although the dress isn't exactly like the animated version, it is close enough to bring to mind references. A little mouse pal sits in a shoe beside her as she shows off her 'magically' revived dress of light blue and white.

You Make my Heart Swing, Sweethearts collection

A little girl sits on a swing as her 'sweetheart' pushes her. Two blue birds sit nestled in the tree that the swing hangs on. It is quaint and a beautiful addition to any Precious Moments collection.

Everything's Better with a Friend, Winnie the Pooh and Precious moments

Although Winnie the Pooh isn't in this sculpture in his 'true' form, he sits as a stuffed animal next to a little boy on a comfy arm chair. Piglet is also featured next to Pooh.

Friends are the Highlights of Life

This is from a collection that showcases two girls in various salon settings. This piece is sure to be a favorite for a good friend. Two girls sit in salon chairs with rollers in their hair, waiting for their highlights to set. The pun of the title is classic.

I-rish you love Snowmen

Maybe non-Irish people won't like this piece as much, but it's cute nonetheless. Two snowmen (one of which is a snowwoman), hold a shamrock between them. They are dressed in lovely shades of green winter wear and a little picket fence is decorated with dark green shamrocks.

Angels watching over us, Guardian Angel Collection

This is a 3D rendition of a classic painting, with an Angel gracefully overlooking two children, a boy and a girl, as they cross a bridge. The boy figure has an adorable expression, and the Angel's gown is stunning with opalescent glitter. For only $30 this is a collection essential.

Thanksgiving Village

With dozens of pilgrims and their Native American friends, this village display makes for a new way to decorate for Thanksgiving the Precious Moments way. The village is illuminated and even features a campfire that lights up.

It's so Munch Nicer having Friends in high places, safari of friendship collection

The pun on this title has a few meanings; one is obvious considering the Christian connotation to these collectibles; the other is that the Safari animal depicted is a giraffe.

10. Wizard of Oz Carousel

There are other Wizard of Oz collectible figures by Precious Moments, but I found these to be the most worthwhile. You can purchase the main Carousel and then buy the individual 'horse' riding Wizard of Oz figures, or you can just keep the figures separate. Either way you can choose from Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, or the Tin Woodsman. Dorothy has her signature basket with little Toto peaking up from the wicker. Each figure is only $20, and they make a cherished set.
