Top 10 Reasons Why I Watch 'The Bachelorette'

Julie Wimmer
Why would anyone watch shows like "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette"? Every season, I try to reason with myself why I watch shows like "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette". I am married. I am not looking for a man. Even if I were not married, at this age, I still would not be looking for a man. Well, a man to marry at least. So why, at age 43, with two young kids, a full schedule, a job and too many things to do around the house do I take the time to watch such frivolous dribble? Below are my top ten reasons.

10. Patheticism. Not sure if that is word, but that is when someone is just being pathetic. I am okay with that.

9. These guys on the show are in their twenties (sometimes 30'²s), and some look as if they are 16. If I watched them with sexy eyes while I was at the gym or at a park, I'd be arrested or called a cougar. In my own family room, with my husband shaking his head in shame, I am safe.

8. It gives me the gall to actually say "sexy eyes"!

7. I can judge the hell out of these people. I can yell at them, cry for them (yes, remember number 10), laugh at them and call them all sorts of nasty names. Sing it with me '" They can't hear me!

6. It gives me an excuse to have an evening snack '" after all two hours, is a long show '" refreshments a must.

5. This is my husband's favorite reason because I thank him, every time, for not being one of these dolts who go on the show to find their true love because their mother told them to. Thanks, Honey, for not being them.

4. The sex. Or the lack there of. Or the lie that there was sex. Or the other lie that there, of course, was no sex, "we swear". It really is all about the sex. How many guys will this one small, idiotic waif actually curl tongues with? How many will she go all the way with?

3. I watch so I can tell my friends I don't watch. "What?" you say with a confused look on your face, pointing, once again to number 10. If I know what is going on in the show, then I can act as if I really don't -- Shut up! It makes total sense!

2. I can be the do-gooder I have always wanted to be. I can say things like, "Wow, I would never do that!" I can brag, "I would NEVER get that drunk." I can preach, "They are making a huge mistake that I would not make." Doesn't mean it's true,People. But when they are on TV, displaying all this crazy behavior I displayed in mostly private surroundings, I can call them out. It's my right as a Nielsen watcher.

1. It's not friggin' ME! I am not the "bacherlorette". I can go on her dates with her, but it's not me! Phew!

Cute. I think the #1 reason for me is the "make fun of them" factor. Hence why I wrote a Top Ten article about why "The Bachelor" was annoying (and yet I still watch). What is wrong with us? Haha! Even though it should be about hot guys, I usually find their personalities too egotistical or cheesy to even consider them attractive. I like when the guys are sincere, kind, and actually funny (a rare find on this show).

I'm not sure I'm going to get sucked-in to watching this season! At least, I am going to try to avoid it! We'll see how long that lasts! LOL cheers :)

HaHaHa! Excellent reasons, Julie! I don't watch the show because I'd get sucked into it, but yu go girl!

I can't watch the Bachelor(ette). The absurdity of the whole thing annoys me. Dan--at least cartoons are cool and have entertainment value. Reality shows do not do it fo rme. :(

    Funny! Patheticism, great word!

I've been sucked into another season myself - I'm ok with that :)
