"Drive My Car," Rubber Soul (1965), The Beatles - What list wouldn't be cool and complete without a Beatles song, especially one about driving your car? I would love to have someone else drive my car for once. I am always the one to drive my children and me on our road trips since I am a single mom with no drivers in my house but me.
"Ride Like the Wind," Christopher Cross (1980), Christopher Cross - This song appeared on Cross's debut album. Riding down the interstate with the wind blowing in through the sunroof sounds like a wonderful idea to me.
"Highway to Hell," Highway to Hell (1979), AC/DC - While I'm not much of a fan of AC/DC's, this song is a must for your road trip. Sometimes I feel like I am on the highway to hell trying to maneuver around the stupidity of some drivers on the road. How do some of these people manage to get licenses?
"I Get Around," All Summer Long (1964), The Beach Boys - Another classic song by another classic band is especially good for those summer vacations when you are thinking warm and sunny.
"Holiday Road," National Lampoon's Vacation Soundtrack (1983), Lindsay Buckingham - Not only am I a fan of the movie, but this song is one that once you get it in your head you have trouble getting rid of it. Obviously, a very catchy tune that makes you want to dance in your car seat.
"Take it Easy," Eagles (1972), The Eagles - This song makes me want to sit back and just enjoy the trip. It is a nice, easy song to make you relax and just "take it easy."
"Country Roads," Poems, Prayers and Promises (1971), John Denver - You need at least one country song on the CD, and this is the song I obviously picked. From Denver's breakout album, it is a song to kick back to as you drive the back roads in the country on a relaxing Sunday afternoon.
"Radar Love," Moontan (1973), Golden Earring - While this song never really did anything for me when I first heard it, I see how it fits into the movies in which you have someone headed down the highway at the end of a happy journey.
"On the Road Again," Honeysuckle Rose (1980), Willie Nelson - Every time I hear the words, "on the road again," I must admit how I break out into this song. It is just such a catchy tune that sums up the joys of being back on the road again.
"Lost Highway," Lost Highway (2007), Bon Jovi - Saving the best for last, this song is my most favorite song on the CD. I could listen to it over and over again. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I am a huge Bon Jovi fan.
