Top 10 Road Trip Songs

Ruth Carter
Road trips can be so much fun. They are a great way to spend time with family and friends, or sometimes, they are just a good opportunity for you to clear your mind if you are traveling alone. In this article, I suggest ten of my favorite songs to play while you are on a road trip, and I think you will find a diverse selection of artists and tracks.

1."On the Road Again" by Willie Nelson - This song comes from the album bearing the same name, "On the Road Again." This song makes you think of traveling down the road and having a good time with your friends.

2."Return to Innocence" by Enigma - This song is one of my all-time favorites and is featured on the album "The Cross of Changes." It has a great beat and makes you want to move on down the road to the rhythm.

3."Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue)" by The Temptations - This upbeat, addicting tune is from the album "Motown Legends: My Girl." It is another one of my favorites, and my family and I love to listen to it when we are on a road trip. If you listen to this song while traveling, you will find yourself singing along.

4."Siull a Run" by Celtic Woman - A beautiful rendition of this traditional Irish folk song is one of the tracks featured on the album "Celtic Woman," and is one of my and my daughter's choice tunes to hear when we're on the road. It is such a lovely melody that you are sure to want to sing along with it as well as listen to it at least a few times in a row.

5. "Band on The Run" by Wings and Paul McCartney - This song can be found on the album of the same name, "Band on The Run" and brings back memories of me and my friend Sara (a huge Paul McCartney fan) making road trips together.

6. "Faithfully" by Journey - This ballad is featured on the album "Frontiers" and tells of a musician who is reassuring his wife that he will remain faithful to her even while he is traveling to remote places. This song would be appropriate for someone who is traveling alone and wants to reassure his or her loved one.

7."Orinoco Flow" by Celtic Woman - This uplifting melody can be found on the album "Celtic Woman" and literally gives you a flowing feeling. It is one of my and my daughter's favorites for road trips.

8. "The Mystic's Dream" by Loreena McKennitt - This hypnotic piece of music is another one of my all-time favorites and is available on the album "The Mask and The Mirror." It invokes images of traveling across not only distance but time as well and is perfect for contemplative moments while driving.

9."Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd - This song is from the album that bears the same name, "Sweet Home Alabama" and is great for those road trips on your way home from those far off destinations. It will also encourage you to want to sing along, and you can change the name of the state if you like.

10. "Life Is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts - This upbeat tune from the Cars Enhanced Soundtrack makes you want to drive, drive, and drive and sing as you go. It has a great beat to it and encourages you to get on down the highway.

I can't believe East Bound and Down by Jerry Reed hasn't made any road trip lists.
