Top 10 Rock Music Christmas Songs

Everyone loves good rock music. Good rock Christmas music is no exception, either. Most of the songs that have made it into this "Best Christmas songs" list are songs that evoke kindness and consideration for others. Some of the other songs that have made it to this top 10 list of Christmas songs are just classics. In no particular order, here are my top 10 Christmas songs:

Father Christmas - Kinks - When you think of rock music, especially the British Invasion, you've got to remember the Kinks. The Kinks have their own way of delivering the Christmas message of not forgetting that there are others who are not as fortunate.

Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses - This is such a fun story song! This poor girl has chased a guy all year and finally gets together with him at Christmas. The song reminds us that we get caught up with the happening in everyday life and lose track of our friends. Christmas ends up being a time that we're meant to be together, even though it happens by accident in this song.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Christmas All Over Again - This one makes the top 10 Christmas songs because it has such a catchy chorus and it's absolutely wonderful to hear Tom Petty singing something light and cheery. Also, the style is reminiscent of some of the older rock and roll songs, which is another reason that it's such a great rock Christmas song.

Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid - The sound of the chorus and the chimes are joyous despite the more serious nature of this song. The song was released in 1984 by Band Aid. The benefit was for famine relief in Ethiopia.

I Believe in Father Christmas - Emerson Lake and Palmer - This has got to be my all time favorite of all the rock Christmas songs. The melodic organ motif, gentle guitar, and the sound of bells brings about a feeling of peace.

Christmas is the Time to Say I Love You - Billy Squier - Good old rock and roll here. There isn't anything heavy in this song as far as lyrics - just good rock and roll with happy thoughts!

O Holy Night - Jon Anderson - even though the song really isn't in the rock style, Jon Anderson' voice is phenomenal. There is just a touch of rock present in the song.

Santa Clause is Coming to Town - Bruce Springsteen - The Boss really rocks an old children's classic, complete with the hope of Santa bringing Clarence a new saxophone.

Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney - The synthesizer part makes this song especially interesting. The hook does it's job and the song itself is happy, which is what it should be.

Peace on Earth/Drummer Boy - Bing Crosby and David Bowie - This one never seems to get old. Even if you're not overly fond of "Drummer Boy", the "Peace on Earth" counter melody makes the song beautiful. The combination of an older, traditional singer with someone as avant garde as David Bowie allowed many of us to find some music that we could enjoy along with our parents.
