10) Gotta Be Somebody, by Nickelback
Though released in late 2008 as well, Gotta Be Somebody has maintained popularity throughout 2009, only just now seeming to dwindle. The song reached #9 on mainstream rock charts.

9) Hero, by Skillet
The first song on Skillet's new CD, Awake and Alive, was released in May of 2009. It peaked at #12 on iTunes' rock chart and recurrently at #1 on Christian rock charts for 13 straight weeks. This single is now featured on NFL's Sunday Night Football.

8) Heartbreak Warfare, by John Mayer
Though critics are unsure about the overall value of John Mayer's newest CD, Battle Studies, (released this past November) the song, Heartbreak Warfare has quickly climbed the charts. It was released just before the CD was made available and is still climbing charts, selling copies as I write this.

7) Audience of One, by Rise Against
The widely popular track off of the band's Appeal to Reason (October 2, 2008) record, Audience of One grew immensely in popularity after its release as a single in January of 2009 and peaked at number four on the alternative songs chart.

6) You Found Me, by The Fray
The first single off of their self-titled album, although released in late 2008, grew in popularity during 2009 and became the third single by the band to sell over two million downloads worldwide. It peaked on the alternative songs chart at number seven in February of 2009.

5) Feel Good Drag, by Anberlin
Anberlin's unique and catchy style reached the eye of Universal Republic records and their CD, New Surrender, was released in late 2008, but the re-released single Feel Good Drag single reached number one on the alternative songs chart of Billboard 200 in May of 2009.

4) Break, by Three Days Grace
The single was released on September 1, 2009 and garnered immediately. It peaked at #6 on the Alternative songs charts, as well as #1 on the Rock songs chart.

3) Use Somebody, by Kings of Leon
A frequent play on alternative radio across the country, Use Somebody is one of the most recognizable songs out right now. Though the CD, Only by the Night, came out in fall of 2008, the Use Somebody single became very popular this year, peaking at number one on the alternative charts and staying there for a good while.

2) New Divide, by Linkin Park
This song, originally released specifically for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It serves as the theme of the movie and the single was released in May of 2009, just before the movie's release into theaters. Linkin Park actually worked on lots of different versions of songs based on the different transformers. The one that they ended up wanting to expand and work on was Megatron, which evolved into New Divide.

1) I Will Not Bow, by Breaking Benjamin
The featured song on the soundtrack of Surrogates, starring Bruce Willis, was released in August of 2009. The song peaked at number one on Billboard's chart of Rock Songs.
