For the most part school supplies for college are basically the same as every other school year. You need pens, pencils, notebooks, paper, etc. But there are some things that a college student cannot live without. Below you will find a list of school supplies for the successful college student.

School Supplies for the Successful College Student #1: Laptop

A laptop is absolutely essential for a college student. In my four years of college I never turned in anything that was handwritten, not even notes. For the most part, professors even prefer laptops because everything can be found in one place. Whether the student needs to do some quick research on an online database or graph a math problem, laptops are an easy and compact way to keep everything handy.

School Supplies for Successful College Student #2: Printer

A printer, like the laptop, is very convenient for a college student. Why stand in an endless line at the library to use the printer and pay 8 cents a page when you can have a printer in your dorm? This saves a lot of time and effort when you need to print a research paper at 4am.

School Supplies for the Successful Student #3: External Hard Drive

It is always a good idea to back up your files, especially if you write an endless amount of papers. Best of all you can use the hard drive every year. Need to find that paper on the French Revolution you wrote freshman year? It will be waiting in your external hard drive for whenever you need it.

School Supplies for the Successful College Student #4: Microsoft Office OneNote or Something Similar

This program is an absolute must for a college student. It is a program that keeps all of your notes in an organized fashion according to date and subject. This is a perfect program for students are not very organized by nature. When I was in college I swore by it.

School Supplies for the Successful College Student #5: Sticky Notes

Sticky notes are great for marking pages that your professor points out. Best of all, they allow you to write a little note about why the page is important. This will come in handy when you are studying for a quiz or preparing a study guide for a huge midterm.

School Supplies for the Successful College Student #6: Messenger Bag

Messenger bags are comfortable and efficient because they are the perfect size for anything a college student may need.

School Supplies for the Successful College Student #8: Planner

With all the assignments a college student needs to worry about there is no way they would remember everything. A planner provides an easy and simple way to always know what you have to do at all times.

School Supplies for the Successful College Student #9: Bulletin Board or Dry Erase Board

This school supply is more for the dorm room than the classroom, but is still equally as important. There are a lot of activities that go on in college and you will need to learn how to balance your time. Bulletin boards and dry erase boards make it easy to remember parties, meeting, grocery lists, chore lists, or anything else you may need.

School Supplies for the Successful College Student #10: Expanding File Folder

And expanding file folder is an easy way to keep all of those handouts organized. In them you can keep the syllabus from your classes, any Power Point Presentation your professor may have handed out, or a random piece of scrap paper where you wrote an important note.

These are some very useful ideas, and I liked your own personal experience being utilized to support your choices for this list. I have a daughter who will be ready for college in about a year so I will revisit this article.
