Top 10 Soap Predictions for 2010

What Soap Fans Will See This Year

Eliza Wynn
Soap operas can be predictable, and it's fun to think about what could happen next and then see whether you were right. My soap predictions for 2010 come from decades of watching daytime soap operas. I don't watch them all, but I've seen most of them over the years. Read on to see my top 10 soap predictions for 2010. Although you might find some of them amusing, every one is a valid prediction of what I expect will happen this year.

1. All My Children

A recast Kendall will return to Pine Valley after Zach goes missing for a few hours. In the depths of despair, she will engage in grief sex with any man who will have her. A recast Zach will then turn up, wondering what all the fuss was about. After proclaiming her undying love for her husband, Kendall will take two days to write a new book, Always, Only You. She will learn that she's pregnant and realize that she has no idea who the father really is.

2. The Bold and the Beautiful

Amber will return with Deacon after leaving Daniel in Genoa City. She'll whine about how miserable she is without Daniel, making everyone around her miserable in the process.

3. Days of Our Lives

Doug and Julie will continue to stay in Salem to be near their family. Before the end of 2010, they will become deeply embroiled in a mystery involving Stefano.

4. General Hospital

Maxie will learn that she's pregnant, and although Spinelli is not the father, she'll let everyone--including herself--believe that he is.

5. One Life to Live

Victor Lord will return from the dead, more determined than ever to be the lord and master of his progeny. His resurrection will cause both Viki and Jessica to regress. Their alters will emerge, proving yet again that no one affiliated with St. Ann's has a whit of competence.

6. The Young and the Restless

Baby Faith's true parentage will be discovered due to a medical emergency. This revelation will send Ashley over the edge, and she will take the baby and run, completely disregarding the obvious danger to the baby. This will happen late in the year, so that Faith's return to health, safety, and Sharon's arms can be Genoa City's Christmas miracle.

7. Cancellation

All My Children will be gone by the end of the year. Despite the so-called money-saving relocation to Los Angeles, the move will end up hurting the show. Fans of the actors who chose to resign rather than switch coasts will stop watching the already low-rated show, as will outraged family and friends of the crew members who were summarily dismissed.

8. Casting

Thorsten Kaye, Jon Robert Lindstrom, Julie Pinson, and Roger Howarth will find more work in daytime by the end of 2010.

The next two soap predictions for 2010 are about the world of soaps.

9. Daytime Emmy Awards

The Daytime Emmys will not be broadcast. Last year's long struggle to find a network finally ended when the CW decided to air the awards. In 2010, none of the networks will pick up the show.

10. SOAPnet

It wasn't really a stretch when the channel started airing primetime soaps such as Dallas and Beverly Hills, 90210 a few years back, but some of the more recent programming is bewildering. Reality shows such as Southern Belles: Louisville and Bank of Mom and Dad, while filled with drama, are not what soap fans expect to see on a channel dedicated to soaps. Now, with the increasing number of paranormal-type reality shows on various networks, SOAPnet will come up with its own version by the end of the year.

As the year unfolds, we'll see how well I did with my soap predictions for 2010. Whenever one comes true, just remember that you read it here first!

My mom Loves all my children, one life to live, and general hospital. It's funny that James Franco is even working in soaps right now.
