Britney Spears proved that she really could come back from the edge with this smash hit circulating the airwaves and an uber-popular tour to compliment its every move up the charts. Womanizer helped catapult Britney back up to the top of her game while her fans and foes rallied behind the ex-Disney Pop Princess to show their support.
Sober - Pink
Anything Pink touches tends to turn to gold. In this case, she touched a trapeze, swung around on it in her sexy lingerie and sang about wanting to be Sober. With catchy notes and the earthy growls for which she is well-known, Pink once again proved that she was a star with talent bursting from heights unimaginable, literally.
Love Game - Lady Gaga
What can one say about Lady Gaga that has not already been said, pondered and stared at with mouth and eyes wide open? The Lady is talented and her musical numbers are untouchable and unimaginable. Love Game had the world singing about wanting to take a ride on a disco stick. Enough said.
Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) - Beyonce
This was the best song of 2009 - just ask Kanye. Single Ladies had the music world dancing around in their proverbial leotards while shaking their booties and pronouncing that "if you like it, then you should've put a ring on it". Beyonce's hit tune received a boost up the charts after the now famous Kanye West/Taylor Swift debacle at the American Music Awards.
You Belong with Me - Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift's past break-up experiences were put to excellent use throughout the 2009 diddy You Belong with Me. This teenage heartbreak love story played on radio in both Country and Pop/Rock stations battling the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and others to secure the top spot multiple weeks in a row. Consequently, Taylor Swift racked up multiple awards in various categories and had industry executives wondering if there was anything Taylor couldn't win.
Waking Up in Vegas - Katy Perry
Katy Perry capitalized on her fame from kissing a girl and liking it to score major points with her smash single Waking Up in Vegas. The accompanying video followed suit and Katy's song had fans singing "shut up and put your money where your mouth is" before long. Catchy tune, inspired outfits and glittery fingernails followed.
Right Round - Florida
"You spin my head right round, right round"...haven't we heard this one before? Florida's rendition of Right Round was contagious enough to have people dancing in the halls regardless of the fact that it was, to be quite frank, not an unexpected cover choice.
My Life Would Suck Without You - Kelly Clarkson
Anyone who uses the word "suck" in a song title should instantly get on a Top 10 list. Kelly Clarkson boldly sang the melody My Life Would Suck Without You and reminded us that our lives would suck without Kelly. The former American Idol proved to the world that she was back after her My December fiasco with this hit.
I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas
This was the Friday night song being sung by industry and office workers everywhere as they were leaving their routine and seemingly endless jobs on their way to a fine weekend out on the town. The Black Eyed Peas returned to the charts with this feel-good pop sensation. I Gotta Feeling helped boost Fergie and her "Fergalicious" counterparts to a new level in 2009.
This Is It - Michael Jackson
Michael scored big posthumously in 2009 with his telling hit single This Is It. His documentary film of the same name garnered high accolades after the King of Pop's surprising death on June 25, 2009. Fans mourned the pop star and helped to make this single one of the highest selling songs and movies of his career.
