Should've Been a Cowboy - This was Toby Keith's first hit, and came out in 1993. it's from his self-titled album. I like it because it addressed that feeling we all get about being displaced in time. "I might of had a side kick with a funny name/Running wild through the hills chasing Jesse James"
A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action - The 3rd single from his self-titled album, this song only hit #2 on the Billboard charts, but it's always been one of my favorites. "I knew somewhere amid all this distraction was a little less talk and a lot more action."
I Wanna Talk About Me - Toby Keith is nothing if not honest. Here's country music's answer to high-maintenance, stuck-up female behavior! From 2001's Pull My Chain. "I like talking aboud you you you you usually, but occasionally, I wanna talk about me!"
My List - A song about the things that are actually important in life. Also from Pull My Chain, it was first aired shortly after 9/11. "Start living - that's the next thing on my list."
How Do You Like Me Now - One of many revenge songs about people not believing an artist could make it. Keith brings life to it and you can visualize the woman he's talking about by herself while he's doing well for himself and playing on her radio. "Besides, you had too many boyfriends to mention, and I played my guitar too loud."
Who's Your Daddy - Released in 2002 from the album Unleashed. Sort of a love song, with Keith's humor liberally sprinkled in. "You run on little tough lovin' baby... Don't you sweat it. Everything is waiting inside for you, you know I got it - come and get it."
Beer for My Horses - A duet with Willie Nelson, it's a good ol' boys song about how easy justice used to be. The music video is a tiny movie, and fun to watch. The song was released in 2003 from the album Unleashed. It's Toby Keith's biggest hit to date. "Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son/A man had to answer for the wicked that he done."
American Soldier - In 2003 this song was on the album Shock'n Y'all. It's about a soldier going off to war. Toby Keith has strong opinions of America after 9/11, and it even caused some tension between him and the Dixie Chicks. "I don't do it for the money, there's bills that I can't pay/I don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway."
As Good As I Once Was - 2005 saw this one released from Keith's Honkytonk University. It's about how things change as you get older. "I ain't as good as I once was... My, how the years have flown..."
High Maintenance Woman - A 2007 release from Big Dog Daddy. One of Toby Keith's funniest songs, it's about a maintenance man with a crush on a very high-maintenance woman. "A high maintenance don't want no maintenance man."
