It wasn't until the mid nineties that I discovered the Newsboys at a local Christian music festival that my husband and I attended. I had been to quite a few contemporary Christian music concerts before seeing the Newsboys for the first time, but had never experienced one with so much energy before. Although it is many years later I still remember their doing back flips off one another and jumping off their drums that were on a high rise. After meeting and having my picture taken with them I bought their Hell is for Wimps album and have continued to follow them ever since. I attempted to see them many years later at a local fair, but due to rain they were unable to play.
The Newsboys have had too many hit songs over the years to list them all. Although I do not own all of their CDs I do own more of Newsboys than any other artists that I listen to. They are without a doubt my favorite group. No matter which album I get of the Newsboys I always end up singing along to all of the songs. I do have my favorites though, and even they are hard to put in any order since they all are so good. When a new cd comes out I'm sure I will be adding to this list. But for now my favorite songs by Newsboys are as follows:
- Shine (Re-Mix) - This song is from one of the Newsboys earlier cds and is one of my favorites. No matter how many times it is played it still is a classic and Newsboys at their best.
- Breakfast - This is not a typical Church song. It is quite popular with teens, including my daughter who wanted it on her ipod.
- Step Up To The Microphone - In typical Newsboys fashion this isn't a song to be played in church either, but definitely gets the point across.
- He Reigns, and You Are My King (Amazing Love) - In my opinion two of the best Newsboys praise and worship songs. I remember when my daughter was only four and would sing along to all the words of He Reigns on her way to school...so cute.
- Devotion - Devotion is Newsboys title song off their Devotion cd. This is one of Newsboy's faster tempo praise and worship songs.
- Wherever We Go - This song is off Newsboys Go cd. Although their title song Go is good, I like this song better.
- I Am Free - I think I lost some of my hearing while listening to this song a little to loud. It has a good message and is good to sing along to as well.
- I'm Not Ashamed - This song was first on the Not Ashamed cd. It was written by Steve Taylor and Peter Furler and is still played on the radio.
- Who - This song is another one that appeals to teens. Who else could pull off describing God as a tender booger from a microwave like the Newsboys?
- Strong Tower - Strong Tower is from Newsboys Devotion cd and had a lot of radio play when it first came out. It is still played on the radio and will continue to be one of their all time great worship songs.
