Top 10 Songs for Your Super Bowl Playlist
The Football, the Food, the Friends, the Family, and the Tunes
Just would like to let you know that my bias is worked up a little bit as I am a lifelong Saints' fan and couldn't be happier that they are in the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. There are going to be a few songs in this list geared towards them, but don't worry because all of these are still able to be enjoyed by all. So let's look at the songs that should definitely be a part of your Super Bowl Sunday.
These are in no particular order:
~ Fats Domino - "When The Saints Go Marching In": The sweet sounds of Fats Domino are enough to get any and every single Saints' fan tapping their foot and snapping their fingers. Here is the song that will get people grabbing napkins and waving them in the air. It will have fans starting a second line and making a trek around their house. Those that bleed black and gold will sing along loud and proud because our Saints have finally marched all the way to the Super Bowl. Video
~ Hank Williams Jr. - "Are You Ready For Some Football": Is there really an explanation needed for this at all? Video
~ Black Eyed Peas - "Boom Boom Pow": This is one of those songs that just gets everyone moving and grooving. It has a catchy beat that is contagious and before you know it, everyone will be going..."Boom Boom Boom!" It's a feel good song that is going to liven up any party already more then it is. Have this on while watching the pre-game or highlights or something and I guarantee you that at some point there will be a huge hit and someone will scream, "BOOM BOOM BOOM!" Video
~ AC/DC - "Thunderstruck": I'm not one that is a huge fan of AC/DC and quite honestly can't stand most of their music. This song though just seems to get my blood pumping and my adrenaline moving. The slow build-up of the guitar before it just gets rocking and rolling and makes you want to pump your first (Jersey Shore shout out) and jump out of your seat. It also reminds me a lot of Varsity Blues which is one of my favorite football movies of all time. Video
~ Aaron Neville and the Saints' Singers - "Who Dat!": The original and best version imaginable. It is perfect for this particular game because it has the chant that all of us in New Orleans have become so familiar with. It is also the chant that has been at the center of much controversy lately when a "cease and desist order" was handed down by the NFL to local businesses. As it has now been explained and resolved, all fans in black and gold can't help but sing the chants of the Who Dat Nation. Video
~ Foo Fighters - "My Hero": Another song that reminds me of Varsity Blues and I just can't help but get pumped up during this song. You need to honestly get yourself a copy of the movie and watch it. When this song comes on and the boys on the field start moving in slow motion, it is like you are in football heaven because every thing just seems perfect and it's as if there is no stopping you or your team on the field. Video
~ Chicago Bears - "The Super Bowl Shuffle": Not only is one of the coolest songs in the history of football, but it also is one of the most awesome videos too. Sure the Bears may not be one of the teams participating in the big event this year, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the classic song that is the "Super Bowl Shuffle." Combined with smooth eighties dance moves and plenty of bad singing; you'll find yourself trying to learn the dance steps in a hurry before your team gets their first score. Video
~ Van Halen - "Right Now": Listen to the words and let your fellow fans know that there is no last year, there is no last week, there is no yesterday, and there is no tomorrow. Simple enough? All there is tonight is right here...RIGHT NOW! Video
~ Ying Yang Twins - "Halftime (Stand Up and Get Crunk)": It has become the official anthem of the New Orleans Saints this year and it is being played ad nauseum all throughout the city. I attended the Saints/Cardinals' Divisional Round game a couple weeks ago and every single time this song started up...the place went ballistic. It is a necessary evil for any Super Bowl party so make sure you have a copy. Even if you don't, I'm sure nine out of ten people attending your party will be happy to lend you theirs. Video
~ Queen - "We Are The Champions": Only should be played once the game is said and done. Nuff said'! Video
Bonus Song that's just a gimme: House Of Pain - "Jump Around": Get out your seat and JUMP AROUND! Video
Enjoy the game everyone and GEAUX SAINTS!!! WHO DAT!
