Top 10 Songs of Super Bowl XLIV

Colts Vs. Saints

Jean Bailey Robor
The role of music in sporting events is almost as important to the game as the visuals we see on television. The lyrics, the beat, all aspects of sporting anthems and songs compel us as fans to feel the excitement, to root for our teams, to enjoy the moment.

For Super Bowl XLIV, music played an important role for both the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints as fate brought them face-to-face in Miami on February 7, 2010. Having won their respective conference titles, there was only one game left to play. Anyone who attended the games leading up to the Super Bowl was sure to hear some of these familiar tunes.

These are the Top Ten songs that spurred them on:

1. Who Dat? (Saints)
2. I Believe (Saints)
3. Bring 'Em to the Dome (Saints)
4. Drew Brees (Saints)
5. When the Saints Go Marching In (Saints)
6. Blue Sunday (Colts)
7. Boys-N-Blue (Colts)
8. Let's Go, You Colts (Colts)
9. Colts Soulja Boy (Colts)
10. Star Spangled Banner (National Anthem played at every Super Bowl game)

If these aren't enough to get your adrenaline pumping, the halftime show was slated to do just that. Performing live was the legendary British band, The Who, led by rockers Pete Townsend and Roger Daltrey.

Dee-1 and Shamarr, singer/songwriters of "Bring 'Em to the Dome," say they wrote that song in 2009 before football season began. They believed the New Orleans Saints' fans needed some encouragement. Their song has done just that; encouraged not only the fans but the players as well. Dee-1's "Drew Brees" declared New Orleans quarterback as MVP months before the player would receive that honor at the conclusion of Super Bowl XLIV.

Just how powerful is a sports anthem? According to Dr. Mike Miller, a research cardiologist in Baltimore, music can stress or de-stress an individual, depending on whether the listener finds the music appealing or not.

Decide for yourself. These Top Ten songs can be found on various websites, including You Tube. Pick your team and enjoy some adrenaline-pumping songs and the emotional ride. After all, isn't that what being a fan is all about?
