Top 10 Songs by Wilco

"Unlock My Body and Move Myself to Dance"

McMillen
When I first met my would-be husband, he gave me my first Wilco album. I don't think it left my car stereo for the entire first year we dated. I was hooked. A month later, we went to our first Wilco show at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, MO. I've also seen several outdoor shows in downtown Columbia, MO, where I live. The band actually lived in Columbia for a while, and they like to come back every summer and play a street show. They are great on the albums and great live as well.

If you haven't listened to them yet, I would classify them as a mix of classic rock, indie rock, and alternative country, with rockin' guitar licks and interesting melodies that will be stuck in your head for days. Jeff Tweedy's sweet yet rough voice reminds me of the muddy Mississippi, which runs near the small Illinois town from whence Tweedy hails. If you are already a fan, you know what I mean. So without further ado, here are my picks for Wilco's top ten songs, in no particular order.

1. "Heavy Metal Drummer" off the album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002)
Unlock my body and move myself to dance, moving warm liquid, flowing blowing glass. Classical music blasting masks the ringing in my ears.

2. "Handshake Drugs" off the album, A Ghost is Born (2004)
I was chewin' gum for something to do. The blinds were being pulled down on the dew. Inside, out of love, what a laugh I was looking for you .

3. "Theologians" off the album, A Ghost is Born (2004)
I'm an ocean, I'm all emotion, I'm a cherry ghost.

4. "Way over yonder in the minor key" with Billy Bragg off Mermaid Avenue (1998)
She said it's hard for me to see how one little boy got so ugly. Yes, my little girly that might be, but there ain't nobody that can sing like me.

5. "Misunderstood" from Being There (1996)
When you're back in your old neighborhood, the cigarettes taste so good, but you're so misunderstood.

6. "Muzzle of Bees" off the album, A Ghost is Born (2004)
Sun gets passed, sea to sea, silently, and back to me.

7. "You are my face" off Sky, Blue Sky (2007)
I believe in locomotion, but I've turned to rust as we've discussed, though I must have let you down too many times In the dirt and the dust."

8. "Less than you think" off of, A Ghost is Born (2004)
Your mind's a machine, It's deadly and dull. It's never been still and its will has never been free.

9. "I'm the man who loves you" off the album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002)
If I could you know I would just hold your hand and you'd understand, I'm the man who loves you.

10. "At least that's what you said" from A Ghost is Born (2004)
You're irresistible when you get mad. Isn't it sad, I'm immune.
