#10 The Bing Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings (1976)
This is a great baseball movie that tells the story of ex-negro league players barnstorming the country during the era of segregation. While the film's main character is loosely based on Satchel Paige the film is a work fiction. While the movie is meant to be a comedy it also has a serious and semi-tragic element to it as it deals with the racism that existed in America in the 1940s. Besides how can you go wrong with an all star cast that includes Billy Dee Williams, Richard Pryor and James Earl Jones!

#9) Horse Feathers (1932)
The Marx Brothers at their best. The clown princes are unleashed on a campus as they try to win a big college football game. It is beyond funny and probably one of The Marx Brothers best films.

#8) Slap Shot (1977)
Yes a hockey movie makes the list. Paul Newman fights it out on ice as he leads a rag tag minor league hockey team. It is old time hockey at its best and a real "guys" film.

#7) Caddyshack (1980)
This is not only the ultimate golf movie it is probably one of the funniest movies ever made. I rarely hang out and play golf with my buddies without somebody goofing off and quoting this film.

#6) The Great White Hope (1970)
This film is a fictionalized version of the life of boxer Jack Johnson. James Earl Jones plays the part of boxer Jack Jefferson who becomes the first African American Heavy Weight Champion of the World in the early 1900's. The movie deals with the racism and hatred that is directed at Jefferson for his refusal to accept his place in society.

#5) Rocky (1976)
This is the film that made Sylvester Stallone a star. It won the academy award for best picture in 1976 (beating out Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver). It is the story of an unknown boxer from South Philadelphia rising up to the challenge of taking on the heavy weight champion of the world.

#4) Eight Men Out (1988)
Written and directed by John Sayles Eight Men Out is a dramatization of baseball's 1919 Black Sox scandals. John Sayles is one of the best independent film makers of the last 25 years and does an amazing job with the touching film.

#3) Bull Durham (1988)
"Baseball may be a religion full of magic, cosmic truth, and the fundamental ontological riddles of our time, but it's also a job." This is that story. Bull Durham is the ultimate baseball movie. A career minor league catcher on his last go around tutors a kid with a golden arm and a future in baseball ahead of him.

#2) Breaking Away (1979)
Breaking Away is the story of a local townie (who are called "Cutters") in the college town of Bloomington, Indiana who is obsessed with cycling and Italy. It is a touching, funny, inspirational movie that will make you want to ride a bike.

#1) Raging Bull (1980)
Raging Bull is Martin Scorsese's tale of boxer Jake LaMotta's self destructive journey through life. Starring Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci the film won DeNiro an Academy Award for best actor. It is a cinematic masterpiece based on the true story of a middle-weight prize-fighter from the late-1940s and early-1950s. It is not only a great sports movie but one of the greatest films of all times.
