Top 10 Sports Songs

Ben Marshall
Top 10 sports songs is a hard list to complete. There are certainly a lot of tracks out there you could consider to be a part of this club, especially if you define what would go in the genre. However, the way I compiled it was in the way it sounds rather than popularity. You'll recognize probably a good amount of them a long with a few random ones as well. Hope you all enjoy!

10. House of Pain - Jump Around

This is an instant classic song. Even for those that don't know a lot of hip-hop songs, it's almost a given that you've probably heard this song. The song came out and 1992 and is still a classic when it comes to getting pumped up for the sports game of your choice.

9. Franz Ferdinand - Ulysses

Sort of a random pick for the playlist, I know. But, the list needs to have a little bit of variety, not just the typical big-beat/hip hop songs. Sort of an electronic feel to this song makes it a little similar to some of these other picks, but the catchiness of the versus and the chorus makes this song a great listen. Pop in your headphones and go to town with it.

8. Crystal Method - The Name of the Game

Wanna get revenge on an arch rival that you have? Take a listen to this song, and the anger will be displaced in your performance. This is a song that has action written all over it. The dirty, crunchy distortion with the looped vocals "Listen all you mother f**ckers", solidified by a huge crushing beat along with the eventual distorted rhymes. "That's the name of the game!"

7. Propellerheads - Spybreak!

Spybreak is one of those songs that is played a lot in different situations. It's a great song to listen in an action movie, but it's also a fantastic song to listen to while running or working out. If you don't recognize this song, you certainly will recognize it if you take a listen to it.

6. Peter Bjorn and John - Nothing to Worry About

This is a song that isn't totally mainstream, but is a popular song among the college crowd. The song keeps its rhythm with a hip-hop type feel with a mix of exotic indie vocals, with a very very catchy chorus. It's a song that will get stuck in your head without a doubt if you haven't heard it before.

5. Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank

This is a classic sports song. It is as simple as that. If you can't think of any new songs to play, this is always one that will work. Fatboy Slim is notorious for is versatility of genres in big-beat/electronic/hip-hop. Although any song by him could be in this spot, this song will do for now. But, if I really wanted to, I could quite possibly use his whole album as a top 10.

4. Blur - Song 2

This is the one song that you always here in any sports arena. I almost forget that the band has other songs for the amount this song is played. Some of you may already be sick of this song by now, but the song still fits me pretty well. It's always a good one to get pumped up to. (It's either this song or that Bush song, Machinehead - I opted for this one)

3. Outkast - B.O.B.

Outkast, one of Atlanta's finest acts, put a song bursting out with fast-paced flows that I couldn't even dream of keeping up with. This song's pace itself is enough to make you get up on your feet and score some goals, fieldgoals, points, or even some penalties.

2. Dan Deacon - Get Older

This song might seem like a rather unknown pick, but let me tell you. If you are looking for a fast paced song to get your day started, this is the song. Dan Deacon, native from the Baltimore area, is a solo electronic guru. However, he played at Lollapalooza and actually got a huge band to play all the instruments in his songs including a horn section, group of synthesizers, two drummers, numerous guitar players, mallets and more. Take a listen if you haven't listened to it.

1. Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song

Hopefully, many of you know who Led Zeppelin is though. This is my number one pick for today. It's not exactly the typical number one sports song pick, but for my purpose, I think it will suffice. The energy of this song is what hits me the most. Plus I needed to make sure I added at least one oldie in there. Who'd of thunk that it would be my number one?
