The Class, Star Trek, Three Monkeys and More

There were very good movies this year. Here are 10 DVD s I recommend you see this summer.

1)The Class (Drama) -This is the best movie I watched this year. If you have a chance, please see this movie in a theater. The Class is not just my favorite, it has 97 percent from Rotten Tomatoes and it is the winner of the Palme d'Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. It is a drama shot like a documentary. The Class is the story of a committed high school teacher and his multicultural students in Paris. Don't worry, it is not a cliche, it is not like Dangerous Minds, it is nothing like a formulaic Hollywood movie. It is for everybody, watch it with your kids, friends or parents. But please don't miss it.

2) Slum Dog Millionaire (Drama) - The director of Slum Dog Millionaire is a genius, he is one of the best living directors. This is one of the most captivating movies ever, don't miss it. It is the story of Jamal Malik, a street kid in India, his commitment to the love of his life, and chain of events that brings him to the TV game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". Of course, just like in all good movies, there is much more to it.

3)I Love You, Man (Comedy) - If you want to have fun, hear a few good jokes and be happy at the end of the movie- I recommend this movie. If you are a conservative person, some jokes might offend you but honestly I think this movie is for everybody's taste. I Love You, Man is not a Judd Apatow movie but if you like Judd Apatow movies you will like this one.

4)The Wrestler(Drama) - This movie turned out much better than I thought. It is not a very original story but it it well directed, well acted and feels sincere.

5)Frost/Nixon - This is a decent good movie. Well written, well directed, well acted.

6) Star Trek (Science Fiction/Fantasy)- I haven't seen this movie but it has a 100 percent from Rotten Tomatoes. The director is Jeffrey Abrams, he is the director and creator of Alias and Lost, and the screenwriter of Mission Impossible III. So if you are interested in Science Fiction and if you don't mind big budget Hollywood, this movie is for you.

7)I've Loved You So Long (Drama) - This movie is for people who love good visual story telling, it is not for everybody. It is a French movie with not much dialogue. It is very captivating, I loved it(I have a review just on this movie). It is very well acted and directed.

8) Three Monkeys - One of the best movies of the year 2008. The director Nuri Bilge Ceylan has the best director award from Cannes 2008. It has great cinematography.

9) Revolutionary Road - This is a good movie and I recommend it to drama lovers. This movie is not as sophisticated as Three Monkeys or I've Loved You so Long, it is a little heavy handed, the message is a little bit cliche but it is a moving story.

10)JCVD(comedy) - A must watch comedy. Jan Claude Van Damme plays himself in this comedy. I never thought he would be a in a good movie. Rotten Tomatoes has given this movie a 85 percent and in the RT website it is stated that it recalls Charlie Kaufman movies like Being John Malkovich.

The Class is a great movie but I'm starting to get bored with this documentary/drama directing.
