Top 10 Summer Rock Concerts of 2010

Mike Spain
The summer of 2010 like most summers looks like a great summer of rock and roll. Stadium shows will be rocked by the likes of Roger Waters and U2. Other venues will be rocked by Tom Petty, Rush, Iron Maiden, Santana, Styx, Sting and more. Read more to see who highlights a great summer of rock.

Roger Waters

The tour might not kick off until the fall. Mid September in Toronto still technicly counts as calendar summer. However, Roger Waters on tour performing "The Wall" has to be one of the most anticipated concerts of 2010. The tour also might be Roger Waters last tour so that only adds to its appeal.

Dave Mathews Band

According to CMT country, jam band, southern rock band the Zac Brown Band is going to be opening for the Dave Mathews Band. I just classify the Zac Brown Band as great music and opening up for Dave Mathews will be a great tour. The Dave Mathews Band has legions of faithful fans and always puts on an entertaining show.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Tom Petty is back with his Heartbreakers this summer. A Tom Petty concert by itself would be a great rock experience. However, Tom Petty is getting some great support from the likes of Crosby Stills and Nash and blues great Buddy Guys on some tour dates. Crosby Stills and Nash or Buddy Guy really does add to the concert experience.

U2

U2 is probably the biggest rock band in the world. The Irish bands tour which was one of the biggest concert draws last year continues into the summer this year. U2 provides fans a great chance to see a great stadium show.

RUSH

According to ticketmaster Canadian classic rockers Rush will be touring this summer. The band will be on their Time Machine tour. The band plans to perform their classic album Moving Pictures on this tour.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Like your rock a little on the southern style? You're in luck this summer with Lynyrd Skynyrd bringing their God & Guns tour to a city near year. Add in a second helping of Dixie Rock with special guest .38 Special for your southern fried evening. Bret Michael brings his unique Poison, Country style rock as an appetizer.

Santana

Santana his hitting the concert stage with his PRS guitar and his latin brand of classic rock. The guitar slinger will be joined by classic rocker Steve Winwood. Winwoods hits spans several decades with hits like Roll with It, Can't Find My Way Home, Dear Mister Fantasy and more. It helps having the catalogs of Traffic and Blind Faith to pull from.

Iron Maiden

If you're a fan of classic heavy metal you are in luck. Iron Maiden is hitting the concert trail near you this summer. The band will bring their head banging sound and play their classic songs.

Foreigner and Styx

If you're into classic rock, especially from the 80's then you can not miss a double bill of Foreigner and Styx. Foreigner playing hits like Jukebox Hero, Cold as Ice, and Hot Blooded are sure to entertain. Add in a third classic rock band in Kansas for good measure and you have a great evening of classic rock planned.

Sting

Sting has had plenty of hits as a solo artist and as a member of the Police. Sting performing his classic songs would be a treat by itself. However, adding an orchestra behind Sting and Sting fans receive a chance to hear his songs in a different way.

Great picks, Mike. U2's recent release includes some of their best material. I'd love to see "Magnificent" done live!

Rush is still sounding like they did many years ago. They are coming to (nearby) Wichita, KS and for a three man band, they are still unbelievably good!
