Top 10 Tech Products of the Decade

Barbie Crafts
Let's talk about the top ten tech products of the last decade. This decade was the beginning of a new millennium, which was heralded by many to be expected to bring dramatic change to our lives. We heard about everything from impending doom to computers that would become obsolete. However, it was the 9-11 attacks on our country that brought us jolting into the future, changing our lives forever.

Technologically speaking, things changed significantly, too, although, we were all glad to know the computers around the world didn't all malfunction in a Y2K Disaster. There were many technological advancements, and during this decade, certain products actually invented in the 1990's evolved into fixtures in our everyday life.

Top Ten List of Tech Products from this last Decade:

1. MP3 Players and IPods emerged as leaders in music technology. Almost every kid under 20 in the country was walking around plugged into a little player, listening to who knows what! Cd's, which had replaced cassettes during the last decade, still got some use, but portable devices, programed from the computer, became the norm.

2. DVD players had already come on the scene at the beginning of 2000, but over the last decade, VCR tapes have gone the way of Eight Tracks. Blue Ray Technology has further advanced the digital movies we enjoy. Home Theaters are enjoyed more than ever. Blockbuster has given way to Redbox somewhere during the last decade, and it is so very cheap and convenient to utilize this entertainment option.

3. Cell phones have multiplied exponentially during the last decade. There is hardly an adult or child that doesn't have a cell phone at their disposal. At the turn of the millennium, the flip phone was just becoming very popular. These flip phones were equipped with a state of the art digital camera, and people were pulling them out and snapping pictures constantly. Over the course of the decade, the smart phone came of age. Internet access through the cell phone, and ever increasing touch screen technology have made it hard even to keep up with what is available. The true situation is that everyone has become almost completely dependent and obsessed with their smart phone. Texting is taking over our lives, and only looks to get worse. Laws are being passed across the country to prohibit cell phone use while driving.

4. Digital cameras have almost completely replaced traditional film development. The quality has improved, and the prices have gone down, so that they have been adopted by almost all ages. Often, photos are only used online, anyway, but if prints are desired, it is no problem. Prints are produced on printers that rival the ones you have developed. These printers, too, have gone down in price, however, the ink cartridges have gone up considerably!

5. Computers have remarkably changed over the last decade. They are faster, and smaller than ever. Laptops have emerged, and then evolve into a smaller notebook size, too. A laptop is as much a tool of school or work as a pencil and paper formerly was.

6. WIFI, or wireless Internet technology has become very common over this decade. No longer do people have to plug in to a stationary location. Laptops have made WIFI in various public places a very common thing, too.

7. GPS units are another product of this decade. People have begun to rely on the little technology box in the car, instead of a map. GPS technology has crossed over into other areas as well.

8. Blue tooth Technology is another of the top ten tech product of this last decade. Partially due to the increased cell phone use, people walk around with little ear devices on, appearing to talk to themselves!

9. Automotive technology has continued to expand, but not at the rate you would think. Key less locks have become the norm, rather than the exception. When you are walking through a parking lot, it is no longer a surprise when a car beeps or its horn blows when someone is locking their car.

10. Satellite Radio is another area where we have seen technological advances this last decade. Sirius Radio and others have sold and serviced radios that pick up pay channels by radio, rather than television.

There are probably other equally important tech products of the last decade that I have overlooked. You may indeed have your own list of top ten! It's a changing world!
