Top 10 Things I Hated About the 80s

I Liked the 80s Alot, but They Were Not Perfect

1) 55-mph speed limit was still in effect. No one went 55 though.

2) In 1988 it was very hot (Over 100 some days) and very dry, and I spent that whole summer in a place without air conditioning. My car didn't have AC either.

3) I had an old car that ran on leaded gas. It got harder and harder to find as the years went on.

4) Two of my favorite restaurants closed their Toledo area branches in the 1980's: Godfather's Pizza and Kewpie Hamburgers.

5) Minimum wage went up to $3.35/hr in 1981.... And stayed at $3.35/hr the entire decade.

6) Long Distance was more than $0.60 per minute in the early 80's and having a girlfriend 50 miles away became quite expensive.

7) Far fewer businesses were open 24 hours. Your sister needs tampons at midnight? You're off to the 7-11 to pay double what you would during the day. (She knew the period was coming 28 days earlier, I still had to go).

8) Basic cable in my area went from about 20 channels to 45 channels during the 1980s. I can remember MTV playing videos, I can even remember MTV not being on the air yet.

9) CDs first came out and the least little vibration would make them skip. I had to set the player on concrete blocks to hear my song straight through.

10) Pop, or Soda, as it's known outside the Midwest, was sold in 16z heavy glass refillable bottles. It was a chore to drag them back to the store to get your deposit back. When you bought more pop, it was really heavy.
