1. Prepare your travel insurance. According to statistics, lots of bags, totalling to 1 million about 2 years ago got lost in US airlines, insurance should help you cover for these if in case it happens to you. If it does not happen to you, well and good.
2. When in a foreign country be sure to read the local paper. It pays to know what is happening in your surroundings. If you do not understand the language spoken in that country it would be good to watch the local news channels, by looking at the clips you would already know what is going on in the country you are in.
3. If you plan to go on a road trip make sure you are in the condition to drive, it would be a real bummer if you meet an accident on the road. Better safe than sorry.
4. Bringing your own bottled water when on the road is also a must, you may buy bottled water in the shops you passby but if you are in a different country make sure that the bottled water you are buying is from a reputable source and not just something sold in the streets. Bottled water, if not stored the proper way, can be contaminated.
5. If you are in a foreign country make sure you know where the embassy of your country of origin is, there are unforeseen events where you would and might need the assistance of the embassy such as getting mugged and losing your passport. If possible have a duplicate copy of your documents or at least an extra identification card left somewhere not in your wallet.
6. Make sure that you make your flight otherwise you will pay again or maybe not even get a flight until the next few days.
7. Be sure to bring snacks. Sometimes flights are delayed and you might get hungry just waiting for your flight. This is especially helpful when you are traveling with kids in tow.
8. Make sure you have enough money or when using a credit line, make sure your credit card does not charge a currency conversion fee which could be quite expensive.
9. Pack light, you'd be buying things along the way anyways.
10. Enjoy the trip, don't go about taking photos here and there every time because you might miss relishing the moment of being there.
