A pretty smile is one of the most important thing you can have, something you will carry with you all of your life. A good smile starts with proper dental care but there are other factors many people fail to avoid or they are just unaware.

Fluoride: Most people get enough fluoride in there public drinking water but for those people who only drink bottled water or have well water they lack the proper amount of fluoride needed to keep your teeth resistant to tooth decay. Fluoride also helps remineralization the teeth which helps repair damage before it comes visible.

Smoking: smoking can quickly turn your pearly whites into a yellow disaster. Smoking can also caught inflammation of the gums, and tooth decay that can eventually lead to tooth loss. The tar and nicotine from smoking can cause a film to adhere to the teeth which can collect bacteria and lead to acid production.

Pregnancy: it's very important to ensure you take proper care of your teeth during pregnancy. Pregnancy has been linked to untreated gum disease along with low birth weight babies and pre term babies.

Wine: the acidity of wine can cause the structure of the tooth to dissolve. This can lead to enamel erosion. To help avoid enamel erosion its best to rinse your mouth with water after you have drank wine. Wine can also stain the teeth.

Junk Foods: Sugar produces acid which can rot your teeth. This acid is produced by the natural bacteria's in the mouth that eat sugar this then turns into acids that will eat away at the tooth enamel which will eventually lead to the tooth decay, cavities or gingivitis.

Dieting: Poor eating habits can cause your body to be deprived on nutrients and vitamins that are vital to healthy mouth. If you are dieting it's important to take a multivitamin that provides you with folate, vitamin c, calcium and vitamin B. It's also important to ensure you are getting enough protein.

Tooth Whitening: over bleaching off teeth can lead to sensitivity. It's important to follow the directions on the packaging and ensure you are not over whitening.

Acidic Foods: Your citrus foods and other acidic foods contain acid which will cause your tooth enamel to erode leading to weak teeth that will decay over time. It's important to rinse your mouth with plain water after eating acidic foods to help prevent the acid from affecting your teeth.

Flossing: Food that gets lodged between the teeth cannot always be removed by brushing. Flossing helps remove small particles of food that will lead to tooth decay if not removed.

Drinks: Carbonated sugary drinks lead to tooth decay because of high sugar contents. The dark colors of certain drinks such as tea and coffee can promote stains on the teeth. These stains look like a yellowish color on the teeth that are unsightly.
