Top 10 Tips for a Spa Vacation

Sean Hein
By spa, we mean a space where you can pamper yourself with various spa treatments like facials, body massage and other options on offer. Lots of people plan to go on a spa holiday, but sometimes end up being dissatisfied. This happens because they are not clear with their expectations from a spa holiday.

You should first determine why you have opted for a spa holiday. Is it because you just want a laid back afternoon doing nothing? Do you want to take your spouse for a romantic getaway? Are you looking for a rejuvenating and healing experience?

We invest quite a substantial amount on a spa holiday. So why not plan it well and get a good value for your money?

Some tips given below will enrich your spa experience.

1. You should be clear with the type of spa you want to visit. There are numerous options available, from the Day spa to a Destination spa. Find out what each type of spa offers and what to expect from them. Only then you can take a wise decision and enjoy your holiday as expected.

2. While booking your holiday, try to know what facilities they are offering in their "spa". Read through their website for services offered and check if the spa's photographs are uploaded. It may not be the same as what you are expecting it to be. This will help you to get an idea of their set up.

3. Plan well in advance and book your spa holiday before you travel. You may have to return empty handed when you find out that the spa is booked to limits. This may happen on long weekends or during National holidays. So it is always better to reserve beforehand. Also, it is advisable to book for at least three nights, as you will be eligible for any discounts on offer.

4. Some spas also hold lectures on health related topics along with different spa treatment packages. Whenever you book your spa appointment, ensure that your timing does not clash with some lecture you want to attend. Thus you will have the best of both worlds, and not miss out on discussion on your favorite topic at the spa.

5. Some spa locations like the Canyon Ranch may drain your budget. It is economical to stay at a bed-and-breakfast scheme or in a motel just for the night, then check-in at your spa the next morning. This will be much easier on your pocket. You will be able to indulge in the spa treatments all day long.

6. A destination spa has numerous activities going on at the same time. You must find out what you are actually looking for in your spa holiday- is it health and well being? Is it staying fit? Is it something divine and spiritual? Or just simple pampering? You can zero in on those activities which fulfill your motive of being there.

7. You are going on a vacation, so don't make haste. It is better to reach the spa at least half an hour before your appointment. This way you can look around the spa and benefit from the various facilities like sauna bath, steam bath, and hot and cold water pools. Such luxurious facilities are usually offered at destination and resort spas.

8. Make sure that you inform the spa about your pregnancy or any other health problem like diabetes or blood pressure. This will help them to alter the treatment as per your health. Pregnant women must stay away from spa treatments that may increase your body temperature.

9. You can go for a round of exercise or work out to stay fit before visiting the spa. This will keep you in high spirits and your body will respond well to the spa treatment.

10.Don't take your cell phone along with you in the spa treatment room. You are on a holiday to relax and unwind. A ring from a cell phone is very irritating and does not give you the much needed break from the monotony of routine.
