It's Up to You

Are you looking for a new job like many other Americans? If the answer is yes, there are certain tips that you must know ahead of time to ensure your job searching efforts are a great success. Being that it's a recession, jobs are hard to come by and even harder to keep. Learn the proper techniques to guarantee your employment in this recession.

Do Plenty of Research: Before jumping head first into finding a job, you must plan ahead of time. This means coming up with the right approach for getting the type of job you're looking for. Look in newspapers as well as online sources to find out each and every detail about your field. Remember you want to be best of the best, the research is worth it!

Different Streams of Income: If you're looking for a job, look for more than one. List all of your skills and apply yourself to each one of those fields. If you're good at both computers and management, look for jobs in both fields. During this trying time of recession you must remember to rely on more than one income, one monthly paycheck alone won't cut it anymore!

Polish Your Resume: When is the last time you applied for a new job? If you are like most people, you've been at the same job for a while and your resume is probably a little bit outdated. Update your resume so it looks clean and professional; add any extra skills and talents that you may have acquired since the last time you did your resume.

Get Your Skills up to Par: Be ahead of the job searching game by doing the most important thing, improving your skill set. This means learn all the in's and out's behind the field you're wishing to excel in. Even if you think you know it all when it comes to your job description, learn more!

Think Reasonable: Don't go into your job search expecting to find a job where you're making $50-100,000 within the first month, be reasonable. This is a recession! Hardly anyone will be making a salary such as that in today's job field, so don't expect it. Go in with a reasonable mentality and sense of compensation.

Never Oversearch: Over searching is when you spend too much time looking for a job. Sure you may want a job quick, fast and in a hurry, however; take a break otherwise the job searching process will start to seem long and stretched out. Pace yourself when looking for jobs, apply and then give time for companies and employers to respond.

More Communication: Communication is your best friend when it comes to finding a job during a recession. You must not only rely on your skills and talents, but also the ability to get the word out. By using the "word of mouth" method, you may stumble upon a job thru hearsay. Take full advantage of talking and branching out other professionals, something great is always bound to happen!

Look and Act Professional: If you want to play the part, you must look the part, plain and simple. Put on your "A" game when going into interviews and inquiring about jobs. This means avoid jeans and t-shirts, unless that's the type of job you're aiming for. Men should wear collared shirts, button up-s, slacks and ties, while women should strive for the classiness of a skirt.

Gain More Knowledge: The key to getting and keeping a great job is having the ability to learn as you go. This means learning important skills outside of your field. The employer of today's job market is looking for someone that has talent in more than just one field, someone that can be versatile in a time of need. Knowledge is power!

Sell Yourself: When applying for or going to a job interview, you should always remember to sell yourself! This means have everything down pack as far as what you're going to say. Have all of your materials in order when it comes to portfolios and resumes so you don't have to look for supplies at the last minute. Be confident but not cocky! Boost all of the high points in your career!
