1. Polly Pockets: There are a wide variety of sets and accessories available for Polly and her friends. These miniature dolls measure about 3 inches tall and have clothes and shoes and even little accessories such as combs and purses. There is a hotel, a limo, a bus and a water park all for these small dolls. My daughter plays with them most creatively for several hours at a time. She makes up stories and takes Polly and her friends on trips and for lots of adventures. This toy is actually lots of toys because the sets are so numerous and creative play can last as long as the imagination!
2. Sweet Streets: This is another miniature toy that my 7 year old daughter loves to play with. There are miniature houses and stores. There is a country house and a town house. There is a hospital, school, dance studio, and a pet shop among many others. In addition, we sent away proofs of purchase and got the Sweet Streets play mats which are fabric mats with a map of the town and a place to put each house or store plus roads and parks and trees mapped out. The little dollhouse dolls that live in this "village" are about 3 inches tall and fit into all of the buildings and on all of the furniture. They have jointed waists for bending and posable arms. There are moms and dads and kids and even grandparents. There is even a school bus and an ice cream truck which comes complete with miniature ice cream on a stick! This has provided my daughter with hours of play time as well.
3. Balloon Lagoon: This is a "board game" in the loosest sense of the term. In the big picture, this game is set up to look like a carnival or fair. There is sort of a board. On it are 4 different games that can be played and in the center is a carousel which doubles as a spinner and a timer. Once the game is set up, the timer starts and each player plays whichever carnival game he was assigned (via the spinner) until the timer runs out (i.e. music stops playing!). Then the scores are added up and small plastic balloons are placed into the players' game piece. The winner is the one who fills their game piece with balloons first. This s a fun game for my daughter to play when her friends come over. It is simple enough to understand and it is a relatively quick game. It is also just a lot of fun!
4. Hullabaloo: Hullabaloo is a great game for 7 year olds as well as older and younger children. It is a great party game! The game comes with play pads which are placed on the floor and an audio console. The play pads are different colors and are different shapes plus each one has a different picture so you are playing with 3 different variables. The audio console is turned on and it tells players what to do, "dance to a triangle" or "hop to a guitar" and it plays music. At the end, it says "freeze" and then it tells who the winner is, for example, "if you're standing on spaghetti, you win!" It is always a different game and you never know what will come next! It's a high energy game but tons of fun, especially for a group of kids!
5. Littlest Pet Shop: These are small animals that come with lots of accessories. There are dogs and cats and bunnies and mice. There are little dog beds and so many little things. There is even a play set with 3 levels of places for the pets to live and play and much, much more! This is yet another creative play toy that is limited only by the imagination!
6. Mancala: This is a classic game but it is great for 7 year olds. It is a wooden board with 6 indented "bowls" on each side (for a total of 12). Each player starts with 4 marbles in each bowl and plays until one player moves all of the marbles out of the bowls on his side. It is a game of strategy and some skill but still easy enough for a 7 year old to play and WIN against an adult!
7. Blokus: I first learned about Blokus as an online game but soon found that there is a board game that can be played with 2-4 players. Each player tries to place all of his 21 game pieces on the board but there is a strategy to it and there are certain ways you can and cannot place your pieces on the board. In addition, you must try to block your opponent from placing all of his pieces on the board at the same time you are working on your own pieces. So, put it all together and it is a great strategy game that never gets boring because it is never the same! It is a challenge to win and even when you don't win, it is a fun and also a learning experience!
8. Leapster: Although many of the games that can be purchased for this system are meant for younger children, there are also choices available for a 7 year old that are still fun. There is a 2nd grade game and there is a math game that my daughter has a lot of fun playing. This is a great toy to bring in the car, especially for night time driving, and it is good to play while waiting in restaurants, doctor's offices, or anywhere one has to spend time waiting. The games are educational but they are games so they are fun to play. My daughter often does not realize she is learning along with the game!
9. Ello: This is a creative building toy. I guess you could say that it is "Legos for girls!" Girls can make fairies and princesses as well as their houses and lots of other cool things. There are several different sets that you can buy and they each have a different theme. One is fairies and one is sea creatures and there are others. All of them are really neat but you really do need one of the bigger sets to be able to create lots of fun things or else you run out of pieces in the middle of your creation and this can be very frustrating! There is even string included in some of the sets so you can even make jewelry out of some of the Ello sets.
10. Lite Brite: This is a classic game that even I grew up with but it's still fun. You take colored pegs and poke them into a pegboard. Built into the pegboard is a light bulb for illuminating the translucent pegs of varying colors. You can create your own designs or you can use a pre-printed design with the color code as a guide. Either way, the finished product is neat to look at with the light shining through.
So there you have it. The highest ranked toys by my very own 7 year old daughter. These are her favorites and if you know a 7 year old girl, I bet she'll like them too!

These games are all based on purchased plastic (made in China)pieces, which are probably toxic to your kid. Try Keeper of the Keys and more interactive games for your kids. They want to interact at this age.. not sit and play with board games.
