Top 10 TV Detectives

Now the top 10 t.v detectives are people who have been acknowledged in one way or another for their great work. These detectives are usually great writers as well because that is always something extra when practicing in a certain profession. These detectives are well known to be the top detectives in t.v shows and maybe off the television. We are going to start with the 10th one going up to the first one.

#10 - Ellery Queen

Ellery Queen is the 10th in the top t.v detectives because he has been on several t.v shows. He has been on radio shows and he has his own book series. Here is a few things that he was able to do accomplish in his life. In (1950-1952) he starred in "The Adventures of Ellery Queen," his first show. In (1958-1959) he starred "The Further Adventures of Ellery Queen" which was his second show. In 1971 he starred in a television movie called "Ellery Queen Don't Look Behind You" which was his third show. But it's the 1975 t.v series that stands out. This adaptation starred Jim Hutton and was a classic detective show.

#9 - Joe Mannix

Joe Mannix starred as a former U.S army names Mark Connors. Mannix could be one of the toughest detectives on this list. He ran from 1967 to 1975 running 8 seasons for his show.

#8 - Mike Hammer

Another detective series with multiple television adaptations. Mickey Spillane's - Mike Hammer in 1958 - 1960 ; starring Darren McGavin. Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer (Jan. 1984 - Jan. 1985 ; starring Stacy Keach.) The New Mike Hammer (Sept. 1986 - May 1987 ; starring Stacy Keach). Mike Hammer, Private Eye (Sept. 1997 - June 1998 ; starring Stacy Keach). Stacy Keach became the face for Mike Hammer and really brought the character to life.

#7 - Andy Sipowicz

He was played by Dennis Franz who played him in the entire series of N.Y.P.D Blue. He became the main star after David Caruso, Jimmy Smits, and Kim Delaney left the show. He was the central character of the show during its twelve-year run, and the only one to have been a regular cast member in every episode.

#6 - Jim Rockford

Jim Rockford aired in the Rockford files and played as James Garner from 1974 to 1980. He was convicted of armed robbery which became a wrong conviction and then moved to Malibu to become a private detective.

#5 - Theo Kojak

Theo Kojack became a pop icon for his lollipops and catchphrase "Who Loves Ya Baby". The show aired for 5 seasons from 1973 to 1978. It aired from October 24, 1973 to March 18, 1978 on CBS.

#4 - Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk played a former police detective who is suffering from a nervous breakdown after he lost his wife trudy. Adrian Monk has been running this show for eight consecutive seasons. He has been on several shows doing several interviews and winning a several awards for the comedy that he has on the show.

#3 - Thomas Magnum

Tomas Magnum became a star in the 1980s and starred in a show called the Magnum P.I. Magnum P.I. aired for 8 seasons from 1980 - 1988 and starred Tom Selleck as Thomas Magnum. Magnum was a former U.S. Navy SEAL who became a private investigator on the islands of Hawaii.

#2 - Columbo

Peter Falk starred as the titled character Lt. Columbo. His first name has never been officially revealed. His showed aired from 1971 to 1978 and then he had starred in several movies after. His showed did well giving people clues on how they can solve the mysteries in the show. Instead of ending with solving the case, the show opened up with the crime being committed and then proceeds to show Columbo finding the clues to catch the criminal.

#1 - Vic Mackey

Vic Mikey played by Mick Chiklis in the t.v show "The Shield." No cop created more controversy than Vic Mackey, played by Michael Chiklis. Mackey was the leader of "The Strike Team" and ran the streets of L.A. His brutal tactics were the theme throughout the entire series. "The Shield" aired for 7 seasons from 2002-2008.
