Top 10 Unusual, Unique Christmas Gift Ideas

Unique Christmas Gifts

Christi Bowers
You remember last year around Christmas time. You were trying to figure out what to buy your grandmother for Christmas who has everything possible under the sun. Or, you were trying to decide what your teenage niece would actually like and not throw a fit about in one of her teenage tantrums. It's not easy to come up with Christmas gift ideas. This is especially true if you are buying for someone you don't know well or for someone who really doesn't need anything. Here are the Top 10 unusual Christmas gift ideas:

1. For about $65 you can get a gel cushion seat. The seat can be put on a chair at work or home, or even in a car. No, noone actually needs one of these. But once you sit in one you will understand why it's a unique gift. The gel just cushions you and makes it very comfortable to sit for long periods of time. The gift is one that is unexpected, but will be of value to anyone who sits alot! Give this gift to someone who sits in an office all day, to a truck driver who sits in a truck all day, or to an elderly or injured person who sits at home all day.

2. Purchase a Fused Glass keepsake box. This is an original gift. It looks homemade, but you can order it online. There are different cost boxes. One goes for about $50 and the other one $100. The nice thing about this gift is that even though you are purchasing it from a company, each one is original. There are no two boxes that are identical. This gift would be appreciated by a teenage girl or as a gift from a daughter or son to her or his mother. A grandmother also might appreciate this.

3. Give a gift that will last. Purchase some type of exotic indoor tree or plant that can be nurtured over the course of the next year. You could find a rare plant or tree that noone else has. For example, a great idea would be a Japanese Bonsai tree.

4. Are you looking for an expensive gift for someone who has everything but seems bored alot? Give them a challenge. Purchase their buy in to a Poker Tournament. For instance, the buy in to the World Series of Poker for 2009 will be $10,000. This will pose a challenge for the giftee to actually practice their game before the tournament takes place, and to have something to do. Anyone who has enjoyed poker in the past and has some free time will like this gift. Or, consider this gift for someone who likes to use their mind. I especially recommend this gift for someone who used to like playing sports, but has suffered an injury that makes them unable to do so.

5. Make something totally different that will be looked upon with awe. Consider making some sort of unique lampshade or lampstand. You can take a normal lamp shade and decorate it to the extreme or take a regular lamp and add to the lamp's base. There are endless ideas of what you could do, like making a lampshade that looks like a cowboy hat (but the top is open for the heat to escape.)

6. Try the old huge box with tiny gift inside. Buy something really small or make something. For instance, get a seashell from somewhere like Aruba, and paint it or shellac it. Then, put the shell inside of a box, inside of a larger box, inside of a larger box, etc. Once you get to about ten boxes you've probably gone far enough. Anyone who likes a joke, and enjoys keepsakes and mementos will like this gift.

7. Give a charitable contribution in the person's name. Give to a charity that the person likes in their name, and have the organization make up a certificate of thank you.

8. Give a star naming. You've heard of it, right? You can have a star named after someone. This is a totally unexpected gift, but one that is very unique and meaningful. Almost anyone will appreciate this.

9. Give a gift that requires someone to do something nice for someone else. Noone would expect to have to do something as part of a gift. For instance, it could be an obligation to dedicate ten hours of service to a particular church or nonprofit organization. What's interesting is how meaningful the gift becomes when the obligation is fulfilled. The person will feel really good about themselves. This gift is good for someone who has been feel somewhat down, or someone who is just a little selfish.

10. The gift idea is a gift hunt to find the gift. Get your girlfriend a diamond ring or necklace, or even some other piece of jewelry. She has to use clues to find out where it is somewhere out and about. Just make sure you trust whoever is keeping it at their place before she finds it!
