Top 10 Video Types on YouTube

When browsing videos on any site you will find several different kinds, including music videos, comedic, spoof, and magic tricks.

1. The experimental videos - Will it Blend- iPod
Experimental videos include tricks with magnets, mentos and soda, and science fair projects. Some of the more interesting involve destroying things in new and interesting ways, which is where "Will it Blend" comes in.

In these videos various objects are put in an industrial blender and ground up. The iPod has to be my favorite. If you could stick a whole computer in the blender I am sure he would. Who wouldn't want to destroy their PC from time to time? But an iPod will have to do.

Other items, like Barbie dolls, and glow sticks, produce various interesting affects, so be sure to watch more of them.

2. Spoof Musicals - The Internet is for Porn
Some music just begs to be made fun of, hence Weird Al, or Ray Stevens. Of course these spoofs need their own music videos, and a place to watch them.

This music video spoof features video clips from Guild Wars, a MMORPG. No porn involved, just a very funny song to which the characters from Guild Wars seem to be singing.

The original song comes from a Broadway musical called "Avenue Q" which features Sesame Street styled puppets singing about more adult styled content. This particular song has been seen online in various forms with several different games and flash images set to the music.

3. Fake Commercials - Family Survival Kit
Commercials thrive on You Tube, from many countries, in many languages. There are also the fake commercials, which have taken on a life of their own on many video sites. One of the best is the Family Survival Kit. Well made, with a few items I'd love to have for my personal collection, including the sleepy time brat darts.

4. Japanese Television - Japanese Talent Show: Scuba Diving
There are a great many videos from Japan, including game shows and pranks that are quite interesting, some of which you would not find anywhere else. This particular clip shows a group acting out a scuba dive scene. Through colorful costumes and a well choreographed act, this group of actors do a fantastic job of creating this underwater scene.

5. Music Videos - Ok Go on Treadmills
You Tube seems to be a clearing house for music videos, from those showing off their pianist skills, to the Transibirian Orchestra on Good Morning America.

One of the best choreographed music numbers online is Ok Go on Treadmills. Four men in this band dance on moving treadmills in a complicated pattern, all in one take. I can't imagine how many times they failed before finally getting it just right.

6. Parodies - Nobodies Watching Ok Go
Parodies are another staple of You Tube, and Nobodies Watching has quite a number of them, including Mentos and Soda, and 10 Seasons of Friends in 90 Seconds. Their Ok Go video is one of their shorter contributions, but one of the funniest, with a surprise twist at the end.

7. Magic and Television - Quick Change Artist
Magic, and television clips are often on You Tube, and this is a particularly good example. From America's Got Talent, a husband and wife team perform an amazing amount of quick change, switching dress styles, colors, and his tuxedo.

8. Comedy - Spiders on Drugs
Documentaries sometimes make it onto You Tube, but this is not a documentary, though it seems to be when it starts off. In fact it's a very funny spoof with spiders doing some very interesting things.

9. Amazing - Virgin Mary in my PB&J
Every once in a while you run across a video that does not quite fit into a specific category, but shows something amazing.
But this one isn't exactly what it sounds like. He paints a Virgin Mary on bread with peanut butter and jelly.

10. Game Videos - Kingdom Hearts - Evanescene
Some video games have amazing and beautiful cut scenes. It was only a matter of time before someone took these cut scenes and made them into music videos.

Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy seem to be the most used games. Some of them are very well edited so that the beat works with what is going on in the clips. Others aren't as good. This particular clip has a very dramatic scene from Kingdom Hearts that is well done. The downloadable version is better quality and can be found on limewire or bittorent, but if you just want to watch it then You Tube is good.

There are other categories, and many other great videos, amazing, funny, or simply strange. It is not unusual to loose time browsing the videos on You Tube, and I encourage it. I also encourage the addition of new, fun, and interesting videos.
