Top 10 World of Warcraft Music Videos

World of Warcraft is a record-breaking MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game), with over 8.5 million subscribers, according to a recent press release from the publisher, Blizzard Entertainment. There are many creative and talented individuals in this community, and they have produced a wide variety of works celebrating this juggernaut of a game. In fact, so many creations have been produced that a person could spend days looking at them and still only scratch the surface of what the World of Warcraft fan community has to offer.

Video is a creative outlet that is becoming increasingly popular with not only fans of World of Warcraft, but also everyone across the Internet who has an interest in expressing themselves to the wide audience that is the World Wide Web. This is demonstrated quite effectively by the overwhelming success of YouTube - a website where anyone can upload a video they have created and share it with the world.

World of Warcraft videos abound on YouTube. Typing 'world of warcraft' into the search function came up with over one hundred thousand hits. Yes, you read that right one hundred thousand. Granted, some of these will be repeats, but it is still an overwhelming number of videos. They come in all varieties; people talking about WoW (shorthand for World of Warcraft), videos of guild raids, PvP battles, machinima movies, music videos, and everything in between.

To keep things simple, this article focuses on one particularly delightful form of video - the music video. For the purposes of this list, a music video is any World of Warcraft video set to music. While the research for this article was not completely exhaustive - as previously mentioned it would take days, weeks, or even months to view every video out there - it does represent some of the best World of Warcraft-based music videos available on YouTube as of this writing.

So, without further ado: The Top 10 World of Warcraft Music Videos are...

10) Horde Does Not Want Paladins

This video expresses an opinion shared by many Horde players upon learning that with the upcoming expansion, Blizzard was making the two classes that were unique to each side (Paladins for the Alliance, Shamans for Horde) available to both. Many Horde players had come to hate the Alliance Paladins in all their previous encounters - and now they would have to join forces and fight alongside them. This video is set to 'Another Brick in the Wall, Pt 2' - that famous song by Pink Floyd, except with lyrics redone with a World of Warcraft twist. It features a group of Horde players marching in protest, and is a great example of the World of Warcraft player community reacting to changes in their world

9) Not Quite Barbie

A very funny video of World of Warcraft characters set to three different spoof versions of Aqua's 'Barbie Girl' adapted and sung by Weird Al Yankovic. The first version - which takes up the first minute and a half of the video - is by far the best, and it degenerates from there. But it's still funny, and the creators did well using World of Warcraft characters and emotes to create an expressive video to go along with the hilarious song spoofs.

8) That's the World of Warcraft That You Play!

An entry for a Xfire video contest, using Weird Al's 'Your Horoscope for Today,' but replacing the lyrics with a World of Warcraft theme describing each of the classes in a silly way. And there is definitely some truth to the class descriptions! The singing is well done, and the visuals mesh very well with the song. The narrator character sitting in front of a laptop at the end of the song is a nice touch.

7) Guild Wars vs World of Warcraft: Dance Contest

Hilariously set to MC Hammer's 'U Can't Touch This', this video is a dance-off between characters in Guild Wars and World of Warcraft. It's very funny to see all the different dance moves of the characters from both games - even if you've never played either. Particularly funny was the dance contest - where it showed the remarkably similar dances for characters in each game side by side.

6) Warcraft Rap

Incredibly silly, but the creator is undeniably clever - he's written a rap song with lyrics that are relevant both to World of Warcraft's unique culture, and to icons and events in the culture of the 'real world'. It's also quite brave of him to appear in his own video in a Halloween witch costume! The lyrics are definitely the best part of this one.

5) ROFLMAO

Everyone's heard the 'Mah Na Mah Na' song in some form or another - on the Muppets, on TV commercials, perhaps even in its original form. Here Oxhorn presents a World of Warcraft version that's ROFLMAO funny. It's really more of a short skit than a music video, but it's so enjoyable and well done, it deserves to be in the top 10 anyway.

4) Hardware Store

Yet another music video set to a Weird Al song - is this something that shows the popularity of Weird Al, or is it that many World of Warcraft fans share the same taste in music? Either way, it's a lot of fun to watch. The song itself has nothing to do with World of Warcraft, but the editing on this video is amazing. Particularly impressive is the creation of all the items that Weird Al whips through in rapid succession in the later part of the song - watch carefully, each of the items that is mentioned pops up properly edited and with an appropriate icon as Weird Al sings the name.

3) The Internet is for Porn

Another song that has nothing to do with World of Warcraft, but the creator uses World of Warcraft characters and environments to make the video shine. This hilarious video is set in the moonlight outside of Thunder Bluff, and Kate and Trekkie are very well realized as a female Tauren and a troll in what looks like fishing gear. The 'normal people' are there too at the end - as characters that would, in fact, seem very normal in game. It seems almost as if the song was written for this video with Taurens, Trolls, and Orcs.

2) Here Without You

Set to 'Here Without You' by 3 Doors Down, this video is superbly edited. Following the lyrics of the song, it adds its own World of Warcraft twist - telling the story of an undead who was once a human adventuring with the love of his live. An undead villain murders them both, and when the hero rises again as an undead warrior, he seeks revenge on the killer. Who would've thought World of Warcraft could be so poignant? Or that a rock ballad could fit a World of Warcraft storyline so well that the musicians could've written it with the game in mind? Like any good ballad... it's a long one! Almost seven minutes for the full video.

1) MC Raiders

This video is actually titled Tribute to Myndflame: MC Raiders. This is number one on this list for the song - created and recorded by Myndflame and played during the credits of Illegal Danish: Super Snacks - a very well done World of Warcraft machinima video (about twenty minutes) that is well worth a watch. The creator of this video does a good job of putting the appropriate images to the lyrics, although you won't get most of the jokes unless you play World of Warcraft. Of course, if you've gotten this far down a list of top ten videos about the game, that's not a problem for you. The real star of this video is the song itself, so make sure your volume is up and laugh along with all the MC and raiding references that you know too well.
